George Armistead Smathers was an American lawyer and politician who represented the state of Florida in the United States Senate for eighteen years, from 1951 until 1969, as a member of the Democratic Party.
William Howell Smathers was a Democratic United States Senator from New Jersey, serving from 1937 to 1943.
Anderson Hall is a historic building located in the northeastern section of the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, Florida. The building houses the university's political science and religion departments, both a part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Anderson Hall was designed by William Augustus Edwards, responsible for planning nearly all of the campus' early buildings, in Collegiate Gothic style. Construction began in 1912, and the building opened in October 1913 as Language Hall.

When it was first created it was the largest building on campus at that time. It is a part of the George A. Smathers Libraries system and home to multiple collections of books and other library materials.

Sledd Hall is an historic student residence building in Murphree Area on the northern edge of the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, Florida. Built in 1929, the dormitory was designed by architect Rudolph Weaver in the Collegiate Gothic style. It is a contributing property in the University of Florida Campus Historic District.
State Road 4 is a two-lane state highway in Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties in the western corner of the Florida Panhandle. It is signed east–west, but the road is slightly diagonal. The University of Florida Marston Science Library (MSL) is the science and engineering library of the University of Florida located in Gainesville, Florida, and is administered by the university's George A. Smathers Libraries system. The Marston Science Library hosts the university's extensive collections in agriculture, biological sciences, chemical and physical sciences, engineering, mathematics and statistics. The library is located in the center of the university's campus, and is adjacent to such campus landmarks as Turlington Hall, the University Auditorium and Century Tower. In 2008, MSL began hosting an annual competition, the Elegance of Science, in which University of Florida faculty, staff and students submit artwork on the topic of science.
Oliver Luther Austin Jr. was an ornithologist who wrote the definitive study Birds of the World, eventually published in seven languages. At various times he was Director of the Austin Ornithological Research Center in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, Professor of Zoology at Air University and Curator of Ornithology at the Florida Museum of Natural History. At the time of his death, he was Curator Emeritus.

The Government Documents Department is located at the off-campus Auxiliary Library Facility (ALF). The Government Documents Department receives government publications from all levels of government, and from many areas around the world. The Government Documents staff performs both technical and public service functions in an effort to make this resource of government information available to both the University of Florida community and the public at large; Government Documents Department staff also have prepared LibGuides on various topics to assist patrons.
The Isser and Rae Price Library of Judaica within the University of Florida Libraries' Special & Area Studies Collections supports the teaching and research missions of the Center for Jewish Studies and the University of Florida. The Isser and Rae Price Library of Judaica currently holds over 100,000 circulating volumes. The main library is located on the first floor of Library West. The Judaica special collections are held in the Judaica Suite in Smathers Library (East).

The Harold and Mary Jean Hanson Rare Book Collection is supported by the Special & Area Studies Collections in the George A. Smathers Libraries at the University of Florida. The collection contains over 58,000 rare books, ranging in date from the 15th century through the present era.
The 1950 United States Senate election in Florida was a campaign characterized by accusations and mudslinging. Incumbent Senator Claude Pepper was defeated in the Democratic primary by George Smathers in what has been described as one of the "most bitter and ugly campaigns in Florida political history." Pepper was targeted for taking part in the "dump Truman" campaign, which attempted to deny incumbent Harry Truman the nomination in favor of another Democrat in the 1948 presidential election. The election is an example of the Red Scare, as Pepper was accused of having ties with Communism and the Soviet Union.
Lina Mathon-Blanchet was an Afro-Haitian pianist, music teacher and composer. First director of the Conservatoire National, she was interested in Haiti's folkloric traditions and was one of the first performers to include Vodou-influenced theatrical performances on the public stage in the country. Founding several folkloric troupes, she led her artists on tours throughout the United States and was noted as a teacher and mentor to many prominent Haitian performers. Trained in classical music traditions she collected traditional songs documenting the lyrics, melodies, and rhythms found as traditional themes in Haitian music. She is widely recognized as one of the most influential figures in the development of music in Haiti in the twentieth-century.
