Varusanadu is a village panchayat (code: 232202 [1] ) in Theni District of Tamil Nadu, which is located in the bank of Vaigai River. This village comes under Kadamalaigundu - Mayiladumparai Panchayat union and Andipatti Taluk.

The valley around this area is called Varusanadu Valley, which is a part of Cumbum Valley in Western Ghats and is connected to Meghamalai Mountains. Vaigai River is originating from this valley under Periyar Plateau of western ghats.

History

During earlier periods (way before Indian Independence), this area is completely occupied by trees in the Valley area. A well known Tamil proverb "Varusanattukku pona, vacha edatha sollittu po" (Before leaving to varusanadu, let someone know about your properties and belongings) to give an indication that 'no one ever come back alive after visiting this valley, it is such a danger'. This area was under Kandamanur Zamindar before independence.[ citation needed ]

Agriculture

Ilavam Panju , Mundhiri Kottai , Sugarcane, Coconut , Rice , Ground nut are majorly produced in this area. 'Varusanadu Coconut' is a known variety of coconut in coconut markets of Tamil Nadu, and is originated from this area.[ citation needed ]

Politics

This place comes under Aundipatty State Assembly Constituency. Since known politicians in Tamil Nadu like M.G.Ramachandran, J.Jayalalitha and S.S.Rajendran were elected from this constituency, this area is popular in Politics in Madurai District. From Indian Nation Politics level, this area comes under Theni Lokshaba Constituency.[ citation needed ]

Meghamalai, commonly known as the High Wavy Mountains, is a mountain range located in the Western Ghats in the Theni district near Kumily, Tamil Nadu. The area, now mostly planted with tea plants, includes cloudlands, high wavys, venniar, and the manalar estates belonging to the Woodbriar Group. Access is largely restricted and includes largely untouched remnants of evergreen forest.

Samayanallur is a small town located on National Highway 7, 12 kilometers from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. The main town just lies between the strip formed by the NH7 and Rail Track. On the south side is the river Vaigai and on the north side is Todaneri Lake. The main reason for bearing this name "Samayanallur" is due to its diversity in having all religion people staying together without any religious issues. To be more specific, "Samayam = religions" and "Nallur = life being good" together stands as Samayanallur. Samayanallur is where the conjoined road diverted to the next biggest towns called "Cholavandhan" and "Vadipatti". Venkatachalapuram is a small village situated in Theni District, Tamil Nadu, India and with direct road connectivity to Theni and Odaipatti. The district headquarters, Theni, is situated 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) north of this village.
