Virgin Cars Ltd was an internet automobile retailer, established by British entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson and co-founded by Ian Lancaster in 2000 as part of the Virgin brand of companies.

Branson predicted the company would sell 24,000 cars in its first year, with a £300m turnover. [1] By October 2000, the company had sold more than 2,000 cars, generating £30 million. [2] In 2001, the company launched a subsidiary, Virgin Bikes. [3] By 2003 , the company had still sold only 12,000 cars. [4] In May of that year, Branson opened Virgin Cars' first showroom in Salford, Greater Manchester.

In 2005, the company stopped all operations and ceased trading. [5]

Virgin Cola Discontinued carbonated cola soft drink

Virgin Cola was a carbonated cola soft drink, launched in 1994. The beverage became popular in the United Kingdom in the late 1990s, and began to outsell Coca-Cola in certain locations, who subsequently created lucrative deals with stockists to sway them from carrying Virgin; causing it to decline and fade into obscurity. By the late 2000s, Virgin Cola was only available in limited locations, and eventually became exclusive to Asda stores as a two-litre bottle. After being discontinued in the UK in early 2009, it still existed overseas for a short time before ceasing existence completely.

Virgin Galactic's suborbital spacecraft are air launched from beneath a carrier airplane known as White Knight Two. Virgin Galactic‘s maiden spaceflight occurred in 2018 with its VSS Unity spaceship. Branson had originally hoped to see a maiden spaceflight by 2010, but the date was delayed for several years, primarily due to the October 2014 crash of VSS Enterprise.

The Carphone Warehouse Limited was a mobile phone retailer based in London, United Kingdom. In August 2014 the company became a subsidiary of Currys plc, which was formed by the merger of its former parent Carphone Warehouse Group with Dixons Retail. Prior to this merger, Carphone Warehouse Group was listed on the London Stock Exchange, and was a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index. Following the closure of all stand-alone UK stores in April 2020, all remaining Carphone Warehouse UK outlets were within branches of Currys PC World. In April 2021, the Carphone Warehouse business in Ireland was closed with immediate effect. It traded as Carphone Warehouse in the United Kingdom, and as Phone House elsewhere, before being absorbed into Currys in October 2021.

Vie at Home

Vie at Home, formerly The Virgin Cosmetics Company and Virgin Vie At Home, was a retailer and distributor of cosmetics. The company was formed as The Virgin Cosmetics Company by Mark and Liz Warom with the backing of the Virgin Group in 1997, and was renamed Virgin Vie at Home in 2006. Vie at Home specialised in the direct selling of make up, skin care, body care, jewellery and homeware.

"Dirty Tricks" was the name of a business scandal targeted against Virgin Atlantic. It was run by the rival airline British Airways (BA), whereby BA representatives would call up Virgin customers pretending to be from Virgin and try to get them to switch their flights to BA as well as hacking computers to gain access to insider information on Virgin's flights. The Virgin Group chairman, Richard Branson sued BA over it and was paid a total of £3.51 million in compensation.
