Alinta wind farm (also known as Walkaway wind farm) is a wind power station at Walkaway, just south of Geraldton, Western Australia. [1] It is owned by Infigen Energy and has offtake agreements with Alinta Energy and AGL Energy. [2]
The Alinta wind farm has an installed capacity of 89.1 megawatts. It supplies Perth and the south west in the South West Interconnected System (SWIS).
Each year the wind farm generates energy that would normally produce 360,150 tonnes of greenhouse gases if generated by fossil fuel based methods. This is the equivalent of removing 76,000 cars from the roads. [1]
Electricity produced by the wind farm is purchased mainly by Alinta Energy. [3]
In June 2022, one of the turbines collapsed, causing the wind farm to be temporarily shut down. [4]
Walkaway is a small town in the City of Greater Geraldton local government area of Western Australia. At the 2016 census, Walkaway had a population of 270.
The Jersey-Atlantic Wind Farm in Atlantic City, in Atlantic County, New Jersey, is the first coastal wind farm in the United States and the first wind farm in New Jersey. It became operational in March 2006 and consists of five 1.5 MW turbines built by General Electric. Each wind turbine reaches a height of 380 feet (120 m).
Synergy is a corporation owned by the Government of Western Australia. Synergy is Western Australia’s largest energy retailer and generator with more than one million industrial, commercial and residential customers, generating total annual revenue of more than $3.2 billion.
Albany wind and Grasmere farms are two wind power stations near Albany, Western Australia, owned by Bright Energy Investments. They are adjacent and are often considered a single facility. They have 18 wind turbines, with a maximum generating capacity of 35.4 MW of electricity. The original Albany Wind Farm was commissioned in October 2001, after ten years of planning. The wind farm has the capacity to produce 80 per cent of the electricity requirements of Albany.
Wind power is one of the main renewable energy sources in Australia and contributed 10% of electricity supplied in 2020, with 37.5% total renewable energy supply. Australia has greatly distinguished conditions for harvesting wind power. Abundant wind resources may be located close to population centres in the southern parts of the country and on the slopes of the Great Dividing Range in the east.
AGL Energy Ltd is an Australian listed public company involved in both the generation and retailing of electricity and gas for residential and commercial use. AGL is Australia's largest electricity generator, and the nation's largest carbon emitter. The company has an operated generation capacity of 10,984 MW. 85% of the company's generation comes from the burning of coal. The company emits 42,227,180 Total Scope 1 Emissions. AGL is also a significant investor, owner, and operator, of renewable energy assets.
Wind power became a significant energy source within South Australia over the first two decades of the 21st century. In 2015, there was an installed capacity of 1,475 MW, which accounted for 34% of electricity production in the state. This accounted for 35% of Australia's installed wind power capacity. In 2021, there was an installed capacity of 2052.95 MW, which accounted for 42.1% of the electricity production in the state in 2020.
Lake Bonney Wind Farm, in South Australia, was built in three stages. Stage 1 comprises 46 turbines each having a rated capacity of 1.75 MW and was finished in March 2005. Construction of Stage 2 began in November 2006 and was finished around April 2008. Stage 2 comprises 53 turbines of 3 MW. Stage 3 comprises 13 turbines of 3 MW of total 39 MW). Stage 3 construction commenced in February 2009 and was commissioned in September 2009.
The Snowtown wind farms are located on the Barunga and Hummocks ranges west of Snowtown in the Mid North of South Australia, around 150 kilometres (93 mi) north of the state capital, Adelaide. They were developed by Trustpower and owned by Tilt Renewables, which demerged from Trustpower in 2016. The first stage of 47 turbines was completed in 2008 and Stage 2 of 90 turbines became operational in 2014. Stage 2 was sold by Tilt Renewables to Palisade Investment Partners in December 2019.
The Capital Wind Farm near Bungendore is the largest wind farm in New South Wales. It is part of the 6,000-hectare (15,000-acre) Capital Renewable Energy Precinct, along with nearby Woodlawn Wind Farm and the Capital East Solar Demonstration Plant.
Collgar Wind Farm is a wind farm located approximately 25 kilometres south-east of Merredin, Western Australia. With 111 Vestas V90-2MW wind turbines built in the first stage, and a total production capacity of 222 MW registered with AEMO, it is Western Australia's largest wind farm. It is expected to generate 800 GWh on average per year over the 30-year life of the project. It became fully operational in October 2011.
Wind power in Hawaii has the potential to provide all of the electricity generation in the electricity sector in Hawaii. The 132 commercial wind turbines in the state have a total capacity of 236 MW. In 2015, wind turbines produced 6.4% of Hawaii's electricity. In 2012, Hawaii generated 367 million kWh from wind power.
The Woodlawn Wind Farm is a wind farm located near Bungendore, New South Wales. It is part of the Capital Renewable Energy Precinct, along with nearby Capital Wind Farm and the Woodlawn Bioreactor.
