The school is located in the rural community of Lyons Brook. WPCS had 440 students enrolled in grades K-8 as of 2009.[2]
The school was established in the 1950s in a white painted wood-framed structure located at the corner of present-day Stewart Rd and Highway 376. The West Pictou District High School was established next door in the 1960s. In 2005 the high school building was vacated after Northumberland Regional High School opened; that year saw WPCS move into the old high school building and the original WPCS building was demolished.
In 2011 the Government of Nova Scotia budgeted $3.9 million in capital funding toward upgrades at WPCS, to be implemented in several phases in order to make the building, built in the early 1960s as a high school, more appropriate for a K-8 school. Chignecto-Central Regional School Board stated that as of January 2013, $1.7 million had been spent to upgrade the building's boiler, sewage service, water supply, gymnasium floor, locker rooms, hallway fire doors, bathrooms, parking lot, and school bus loop. Remaining projects include renovations to the creative technology facilities (industrial arts workshop, art room, learning commons/technical space), library, office and administrative areas, and entrance doors.[3]

North Nova Education Centre (NNEC) is a Canadian high school in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. It serves roughly 3200 students from the eastern side of Pictou County. It is administratively part of the "Celtic Region" of the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board. The school's official colours are blue and white. It teaches a broad variety of materials, from traditional academics, to the Fine Arts, to Co-Op courses. The school is also active in sports and extracurricular activities. In addition, NNEC is one of schools involved in Nova Scotia International Student Program. They host international students from China, Japan, Germany, Turkey, Brazil, South Korea, etc. They provide multi-courses even special help for foreign students to adopt local education and Canadian lifestyles. Each school year, there are two student ambassadors here to help international students and organize events to provide them memories of Nova Scotia. This school also offers a program called CEP. This better prepares students who are planning on going straight into the work force rather than going to university.
Northumberland Regional High School (NRHS) is a Canadian public high school located in Alma, Nova Scotia. Students that attend the school come from the western part of Pictou County, including the towns of Stellarton, and Westville. The school is administratively part of the "Celtic Region" in the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board. Its official colours are red, white and black and the mascot is a Nighthawk nicknamed "Squawk". The sports teams from NRHS are called the Northumberland Nighthawks.
Sheet Harbour is a rural community in Nova Scotia, Canada. It is located in the eastern reaches of the Halifax Regional Municipality, approximately 117 km (73 mi) northeast of the central urban area of the municipality, concentrated on Downtown Halifax and Dartmouth. The community is located along the Marine Drive scenic route on Trunk 7 at its junctions with Route 224 and Route 374. Surrounding the branched harbour which its name is derived from, the community has a population of about 800 and its respective census tract, containing sizable amounts of land around the community, has a population of 3,478 as of the 2011 Census. He was the founder and principal of Pictou Academy and the first principal of Dalhousie College from 1838-1843. He is the author of The Stepsure Letters (1821-1823), considered to be the first major work of humour in English Canada humour.
Timothy Jerome Houston is a Canadian politician who is the 30th and current premier of Nova Scotia since 2021. He was first elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly in the 2013 provincial election.
