Dalhousie Mountain is a Canadian peak in the Cobequid Mountains and the highest elevation point in Pictou County, Nova Scotia.

Contents

Located north of Trunk 4 west of Salt Springs, the peak is accessible by vehicle using gated roads and is topped by wind turbines and a forest fire surveillance tower.

Wind farm

The Dalhousie Mountain Wind Farm was constructed in 2009 at a cost of $130 million and consists of 34 wind turbines with an installed capacity of 51 MW. The turbines are clustered in the vicinity of Dalhousie Mountain as well as on the peak itself. The wind farm is owned by RMSenergy Ltd and is operated as Dalhousie Mountain Wind Farm Operating Limited Partnership. [1] [2]

It has a nameplate capacity of 2.25MW which is enough to power 1000 homes at peak. There were 10 Vestas V27-225 kW turbines which were 30 metres tall and stand on top of Blood Hill. They are visible from the villages of Hemsby and Winterton-on-Sea. Blood Hill began operating in December 1992 and was one of the first windfarms in the United Kingdom.

Nuttby Mountain

Nuttby Mountain is a Canadian peak in the Cobequid Mountains and at 360.6 metres is one of the highest elevation points on the mainland portion of Nova Scotia. Its longstanding claim to be the highest peak was disproven in 2017 when it was discovered that Higgins Mountain near Folly Lake is 363.7 metres and an unnamed peak near Hart Lake is 365.02 metres.

Whitelee Wind Farm is a windfarm on the Eaglesham moor in Scotland. The main visitor centre is located in East Renfrewshire, but the majority of turbines are located in East Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire. It is the largest on-shore wind farm in the United Kingdom with 215 Siemens and Alstom wind turbines and a total capacity of 539 megawatts (MW), with the average of 2.5 MW per turbine. Whitelee was developed and is operated by ScottishPower Renewables, which is part of the Spanish company Iberdrola.
