The Wichita, Tillman and Jackson Railway( reporting mark WTJR) is a shortline railroad subsidiary of the Rio Grande Pacific Corporation that operates in Oklahoma and Texas. The line for which it is named extends from Wichita Falls, Texas to just north of Altus, Oklahoma, through Wichita County, Texas, Tillman County, Oklahoma, and Jackson County, Oklahoma. It interchanges with the Union Pacific (UP) and BNSF at Wichita Falls, with Farmrail (FMRC), Stillwater Central Railroad (SLWC), and the BNSF at Altus, and with Grainbelt (GNBC) at Frederick, Oklahoma. [1] It carries predominantly grain, chemicals and agricultural products. [1]
The line in question was completed by the Wichita Falls and Northwestern Railway (the Oklahoma portion) and the affiliated Wichita Falls and Northwestern Railway of Texas (the Texas portion) in 1910, [2] and became part of the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway (MKT) system in 1911. [3] The line was originally longer, but was cut back from Forgan, in the Oklahoma Panhandle, to Altus in 1973, leaving approximately 77 miles of trackage from Wichita Falls to Altus. [3] In June 1982, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) acquired the 61.02 miles of trackage between Altus and the Oklahoma/Texas state line, [4] while the UP ended up with the trackage from the border to Wichita Falls. [5]
In early 1991, the WTJR, a brand new company, separately leased both segments of the line. [5] [4] Shortline service started January 14, 1991. [6] The Lease on the Union Pacific segment was renewed in 2010, and again in 2016 for 10 years. [5] The Oklahoma segment was purchased by WTJR from ODOT around the end of 2010. [4]
In the beginning, the WTJR operated a second unconnected line, running from a connection with the UP at Waurika, Oklahoma to the town of Walters, Oklahoma, about 24 miles. [6] This was a former Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad branch, leased to the Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas Railroad, an MKT subsidiary, after the Rock Island's abandonment in 1980. [7] ODOT had acquired the property as part of a larger purchase in October 1982. [4] The lines were leased to the UP, and in 1991 the Waurika-to-Walters segment was subleased by the UP to WTJR. [4] UP acquired ownership of the line in 2012. [4] But WTJR no longer operates the line: the WTJR website does not mention the line at all, [1] while State of Oklahoma Railroad maps, which used to show it as a WTJR line [8] now show it as a UP line. The Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad was a Class I railroad company in the United States, with its last headquarters in Dallas, Texas. Established in 1865 under the name Union Pacific Railroad (UP), Southern Branch, it came to serve an extensive rail network in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri. In 1988, it merged with the Missouri Pacific Railroad; today, it is part of UP.
Farmrail System, Inc. is an employee-owned holding company for two Class III common-carrier railroads comprising "Western Oklahoma’s Regional Railroad" based in Clinton, Oklahoma. Farmrail Corporation (reporting mark FMRC) has acted since 1981 as a lessee-operator for Oklahoma Department of Transportation, managing an 82-mile east-west former Rock Island line between Weatherford and Erick and an additional 89 miles of former Santa Fe track, Westhorn-Elmer, acquired by the State in 1992 from the ATSF Railway. Another wholly owned affiliate, Grainbelt Corporation (GNBC), was formed in 1987 to buy 176 contiguous north-south route-miles linking Enid and Frederick.

It is not to be confused with the Missouri and North Arkansas Railroad which connected Joplin, Missouri, with Helena, Arkansas, from 1906 to 1946.

Blackwell Northern Gateway Railroad (BNGR) is a short-line railroad headquartered in Blackwell, Oklahoma. It operates on tracks owned by the Blackwell Industrial Authority (BIA) and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT).

Results were disappointing, and the line was abandoned in late 1942.
The Texas and Oklahoma Railroad (TXOR), created in 1991, ran between Oklahoma and Texas on rail purchased from the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (AT&SF). Much of the trackage has since been sold or abandoned; however, the railway continues to exist as a shortline carrier operating between Sweetwater, Texas and Maryneal, Texas.
