Wimbi Dira Airways was a scheduled and charter, passenger and cargo airline based in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. It serves the country's main cities. As of May 2014 all of their planes were reported to be in storage. [2] [3]

History

The airline was established in 2003 and operations started on 13 August 2003. The company is managed by David Mavinga (General Manager) and employed 270 staff.

Banned Airline Status

This airline appears on the E.U. list of prohibited carriers. This means that it may not operate operations of any kind within the European Union community. This is due to the airline not meeting the safety standards set out by the European Union. [4]

Due to safety and security concerns, CAA has been included in the list of air carriers banned in the European Union, along with many other airlines from the Congo.

Lignes Aériennes Congolaises (LAC) was the flag carrier of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It was established in 1997 to succeed the folded Air Zaire. Halting operations in 1999, it was reactivated for a short period in 2002, only to cease operations for good in 2003.

Lignes Aériennes Congolaises, also known by its acronym LAC, was an airline of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with its head office in Kinshasa, and its central administration on the property of N'djili Airport in Kinshasa. The carrier has the latter airport as the base of its flight operations. It was liquidated in 2013.

Agence et Messageries Aérienne du Zaïre (AMAZ), formerly Agence et Messageries Aérienne du Congo (AMAC), was a Zairean airline. It had its headquarters at Aérodrome de N'Dolo in Kinshasa. The carrier was formed in the 1960s to take over some services flown by Cogeair, and provided feeder services to Air Zaïre. It ceased operations in the late 1970s.

Congo Airways S.A. is the state-owned flag carrier airline of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). With a paid-up capital of US$90 million, it started operations on 20 October 2015, using two Airbus A320 aircraft acquired from Alitalia.

2003 Congo air disaster 2003 aviation accident

The 2003 Congo air disaster occurred on 8 May 2003 when a cargo door of an Ilyushin Il-76 owned by Ukrainian Cargo Airways accidentally opened mid-flight while the aircraft was flying over Mbuji-Mayi with more than 160 people on board. The flight was conducting a civilian transport from Kinshasa in the southwest of the country to Lubumbashi in the southeast. Seventeen people were confirmed dead by the Congolese government, while officials estimated that 60 lost their lives. Survivors even claimed a higher number of fatalities, claiming that as many as 200 people were sucked out to their deaths.

The 2017–18 Linafoot season is the 57th since its establishment. Linafoot is the top-flight association football league of DR Congo in Africa. The season started on 11 November 2017 and ended on 14 July 2018.
