Zeeshan Maqsood (born 24 October 1987) is a Pakistani-born cricketer who plays for the Oman national cricket team and is a former captain of the national team. [1] [2] He has played for the team since 2012 and represented Oman at the 2016 and 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cups. In January 2022,the International Cricket Council (ICC) named Maqsood as the ICC Men's Associate Cricketer of the Year. [3]
Maqsood was born in Chichawatni,Punjab,Pakistan. [4] He moved to Oman in his early teens. He became a cricketer with the help of Manzoor Elahi and Saleem Elahi. [5] His ancestors lived in Hoshiarpur,Punjab,India,prior to partition. [6]
Zeeshan debuted for Oman at the 2012 ACC Trophy Elite,scoring 199 runs on debut against Bhutan. [7] He played in the 2014 ICC World Cricket League Division Four tournament. [8] He made his Twenty20 International debut against Afghanistan in the 2015 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier tournament on 25 July 2015. [9] He was the leading run-scorer in the 2016 ICC World Cricket League Division Five,scoring a total of 350 runs during the tournament. [10] He made his List A debut for Oman in their three-match series against the United Arab Emirates in October 2016. [11]
In January 2018,he was named in Oman's squad for the 2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament. [12]
In August 2018,Zeeshan was named the captain of Oman's squad for the 2018 Asia Cup Qualifier tournament. [13] In October 2018,he was named as the captain of Oman's squad for the 2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Three tournament. [14] In December 2018,he was named as the captain of Oman's team for the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup. [15]
In March 2019,he was named as the captain of Oman's team for the 2019 ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament in Namibia. [16] Oman finished in the top four places in the tournament,therefore gaining One Day International (ODI) status. [17] Maqsood made his ODI debut for Oman on 27 April 2019,against Namibia,in the tournament's final. [18]
In September 2019,he was named as the captain of Oman's squad for the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier tournament. [19] [20] On 11 February 2020,against the United States,he scored his first century in ODI cricket,with 109 runs. [21]
In September 2021,he was named as the captain of Oman's squad for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. [22]
In May 2024,Zeeshan was selected for Oman's team for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup,but his captaincy was transferred to Aqib Ilyas. [23]
The Oman men's national cricket team is the team that represents the country of Oman in international matches and is governed by Oman Cricket,which became an affiliate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2000,and gained associate status in 2014. The national side has played matches at the Twenty20 International level. On 24 April 2019,Oman achieved One-Day International status for the first time until 2023,after they beat tournament hosts Namibia by four wickets in 2019 ICC World Cricket League Division Two.

The 2019 ICC World Cricket League Division Two was an international cricket tournament that took place in April 2019 in Namibia. It was contested by six teams;Canada,Hong Kong,Oman,Papua New Guinea,the United States and tournament hosts Namibia. It formed part of the 2017–19 cycle of the World Cricket League (WCL) which determined the qualification for the 2023 Cricket World Cup. The final and third-place playoff match were granted One Day International (ODI) status by the International Cricket Council. Namibia won the tournament,after they beat Oman by 145 runs in the final. It was Namibia's first win in an ODI match,and it was the first ever ODI match played by Oman.
