Grantville is a middle-class neighborhood in the city of San Diego, in California, United States. It borders the communities of Allied Gardens, San Carlos, Tierrasanta and Mission Valley East.
Grantville is one of the oldest communities in San Diego and the State of California. The first European settlement in California was established in San Diego in 1769, in the area which is now Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. The mission itself, Mission San Diego de Alcalá, was moved in 1774 to what is now the Grantville area. [1] The restored Mission is a major landmark and tourist destination in Grantville. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
In the late 1800s the area became referred to as Grantville in honor of U. S. President Ulysses S. Grant. [1] It was annexed to the city of San Diego in a series of moves between 1948 and 1954. [2]
The community is the gateway to Mission Trails Regional Park, established in 1974.
Grantville was the focus of the Grantville Redevelopment Project Area, established by the city of San Diego in 2005. However, all redevelopment areas were dissolved in 2012 by the state of California. The City of San Diego assumed responsibility for any remaining redevelopment projects in the area. [3]
Grantville is part of the Navajo Community Plan, and the Navajo Community Planners group advises the city on land use and other issues affecting Grantville. [4] The community is located within the 7th City Council District currently represented by Councilman Raul Campillo.
Its main roads are Friars Road (which also serves Mission Valley) and Mission Gorge Road which leads into Mission Trails Regional Park to the north and continues south of Interstate 8 where it merges with Fairmount Avenue. Grantville is also served by public transit including San Diego Transit buses along major arteries and the San Diego Trolley's Green Line, whose Grantville station is situated on Alvarado Canyon Road near Fairmount Avenue adjacent to Interstate 8.
Grantville is served by the San Diego Unified School District. The area contains Foster Elementary School and Lewis Middle School. Grantville students attend Patrick Henry High School in nearby Del Cerro.
Grantville is primarily a commercial and light industrial neighborhood, [2] containing businesses ranging from recording studios to a Home Depot, as well as dozens of small retail business, service firms, and factories. The Kaiser Permanente Hospital and its associated clinics and offices are a major employer. Grantville is home to several craft breweries including San Diego Brewing Company, Benchmark, and Groundswell. A popular destination is Irish pub McGregor's Grill. The College Area is a residential community in the Mid-City region of San Diego, California, United States. The College Area is dominated by San Diego State University, after which the area is named. Several neighborhoods in the College Area were developed in the 1930s, with others becoming established in the post-war period. The College Area is bordered on the west by Kensington and Talmadge and on the east by the city of La Mesa. El Cajon Boulevard is a busy shopping district; additional retail, entertainment and dining establishments are located in a new housing and commercial complex known as South Campus Plaza on College Avenue at Aztec Center. The College Area includes the neighborhoods of the Catoctin Area, Dennstedt Point, East Falls View Drive, Saranac-Mohawk, and an Orthodox Jewish neighborhood in the area near Congregation Beth Jacob Orthodox Synagogue on College Avenue. The region includes Alvarado Hospital, a 306-bed acute care facility, and the College-Rolando branch of the San Diego Public Library.
City Heights is a dense urban community in central San Diego, California, known for its ethnic diversity. The area was previously known as East San Diego. City Heights is located south of Mission Valley and northeast of Balboa Park.

Its neighboring communities are Normal Heights to the west, and City Heights to the south. Kensington is part of San Diego City Council District 9. In the United States House of Representatives, Kensington is in California's 53rd congressional district, represented by Democrat Sara Jacobs. Due to redistricting, it will become part of the 51st district after the 2022 congressional election.

Its borders are defined differently by various planning agencies, but typically include Fairmount Avenue to the west, Montezuma Road to the north, Collwood Boulevard or 51st Street to the east, and Monroe Avenue or El Cajon Boulevard to the South.
San Carlos is a neighborhood in the eastern area of San Diego, California. It borders the neighborhoods of Del Cerro, Tierrasanta, Allied Gardens, the city of La Mesa, and Mission Trails Regional Park. The neighborhood extends to Cowles Mountain at the north.
Navajo is a hilly community in San Diego, California near East County. It is a designated planning area for the city of San Diego. It includes the neighborhoods of Del Cerro, Grantville, San Carlos, and Allied Gardens.
Clairemont is a community within the city of San Diego, California, United States. It has a population of about 81,600 residents and an area of roughly 13.3 square miles (34 km2). Clairemont Mesa is bordered by Interstate 805 on the east, Interstate 5 to the west, State Route 52 to the north, and the community of Linda Vista to the south. Fairmount Park is 3 miles from Downtown San Diego. Chollas Creek runs through it.
