Poprad Ice Stadium is an arena in Poprad, Slovakia. It is primarily used for ice hockey and is the home ice of HK Poprad. It has a capacity of 4,500 people and was built in 1973 and renovated in 2011. During the 2011–12 KHL season, it was also the home arena of Lev Poprad, which was playing in the Kontinental Hockey League.

The XXV Winter Universiade, took place in Erzurum, Turkey between 27 January to 6 February. Erzurum is the city at the highest altitude in Turkey, at 1,850 m (6,070 ft), and has over 320 cultural landmarks. Located in Eastern Anatolia Region, it is a city on the traditional Silk Road and has been governed by many cultures over the centuries. The Erzurum Ice Hockey Arena, located on the Cemal Gürsel Sports Campus, was newly built with an ice rink of 60m x 30m and 3,000 seats for spectators.

Spiš Arena is a sports arena in Spišská Nová Ves, Slovakia. It is primarily used for ice hockey, and is the home arena of HK Spišská Nová Ves. Spiš Arena was opened in 1982 as Zimný Štadión SNV and has a seating capacity for 5,503 people for Ice hockey games. The arena has one of only two real-time biometry and facial recognition systems in the world. It was implemented by Colosseo EAS, a Slovak company that also built the arena's game presentation system.

Slovakia as such made its Paralympic Games début at the 1994 Winter Paralympics in Lillehammer, following the break-up of Czechoslovakia, which had taken part in the Paralympics from 1972 to 1992. Slovakia has taken part in every edition of both the Summer and Winter Paralympics since then.

Martin Skotnický is a Slovak ice dancing coach and former competitor for Czechoslovakia. With his sister, Diana Skotnická, he is the 1970 Winter Universiade champion and a five-time Czechoslovak national champion (1970–74). They placed sixth at the 1973 European Championships.

Petra Jurčová is a Slovak ice hockey forward and former member of the Slovak national ice hockey team. She represented Slovakia in the women's ice hockey tournament at the 2006 Winter Olympics, at seven IIHF Women's World Championship tournaments at the Top Division through Division II levels, and in the women's ice hockey tournaments at the Winter Universiades in 2009 and 2011.

The 2019 Winter Universiade, the XXIX Universiade, was a multi-sport event for student and youth athletes which took place from 2 to 12 March 2019 in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk. The 2019 Winter Universiade was the third Universiade hosted in Russia and second as an independent country. The first Universiade, when Russia was a Soviet Republic, was hosted by Moscow in 1973, whereas Kazan, capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, hosted the 2013 Summer Universiade. It is the first Winter Universiade hosted by Russia, and the second time that the event was held in a former USSR republic.

Ľudmila Bezáková, married name Siroťáková, is a former competitive figure skater who represented Czechoslovakia internationally. She is the 1969 Nebelhorn Trophy champion, 1972 Winter Universiade silver medalist, and a two-time Czechoslovak national champion (1970–71). Bezáková competed at three European Championships, achieving her best result, 8th, in 1970 in Leningrad. She was also sent to three World Championships with her highest placement was 11th in 1972 in Calgary. Hilda Múdra and Ivan Mauer coached her in Bratislava.

Biathlon at the 2015 Winter Universiade was held in Osrblie from January 25 to January 31, 2015.

Czechoslovakia participated regularly in the Summer and Winter Universiades since their foundation until the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993. The country also hosted three editions of the Winter Universiades: twice in Špindlerův Mlýn and once in Štrbské Pleso (1987).
