The 1995 Winter Universiade, the XVII Winter Universiade, took place in Jaca, Spain.For the first time, Snowboarding was an optional sport during these games. [1]

Jaca is a city of northeastern Spain in the province of Huesca, located near the Pyrenees and the border with France. Jaca is an ancient fort on the Aragón River, situated at the crossing of two great early medieval routes, one from Toulouse to Santiago de Compostela and Pau to Zaragoza. <span class="mw-page-title-main">Bids for the 2002 Winter Olympics</span>

Four cities made the shortlist with their bids to host the 2002 Winter Olympics, which were awarded to Salt Lake City, Utah, United States, on June 16, 1995. The other cities shortlisted by the IOC Selection Committee chaired by Thomas Bach were Sion, Switzerland; Östersund, Sweden; and Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The host city selection procedure to for the 2002 Winter Olympics faced a scandal regarding the interactions between the Salt Lake City bid team and International Olympic Committee (IOC) members; ten IOC members resigned as a result, as did Salt Lake City bid leaders Tom Welch and Dave Johnson. Nevertheless, Salt Lake City overwhelmingly won the right to host the Games, needing only one round to gain the absolute majority of the votes.

Seven applicant cities presented bids to host the 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympics to the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The IOC Executive Board shortlisted three cities—Sochi, Russia; Salzburg, Austria; and Pyeongchang, South Korea—with Sochi winning the IOC's July 2007 final vote.

The 1970 Winter Universiade, the 6th Winter Universiade, an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes, took place in Rovaniemi, Finland. 416 athletes from 25 countries participated in the games.

Sébastien Britten is a Canadian former competitive figure skater. He won bronze medals at three senior internationals — the 1992 International de Paris, the 1993 Nations Cup and the 1994 Skate Canada International — and became the Canadian national champion in 1995. Britten represented Canada at the 1994 Winter Olympics, where he placed 10th. He competed at three World Championships, achieving his best result, eighth, in 1994.

Figure skating competitions at the 2007 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival took place at the Jaca Arena in Jaca, Spain between February 19 and 22, 2007. Skaters competed in the disciplines of men's singles and ladies' singles.

Günter Anderl was an Austrian figure skater who competed in men's singles. He was the 1968 Winter Universiade bronze medalist, 1969 Nebelhorn Trophy champion, and a three-time Austrian national champion (1969–1971). He competed at two Winter Olympics, in 1968 and 1972.

The 2019 Winter Universiade, the XXIX Winter Universiade, was a multi-sport event for student and youth athletes which took place from 2 to 12 March 2019 in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk. The 2019 Winter Universiade was the third Universiade hosted in Russia and second as an independent country. The first Universiade, when Russia was a Soviet Republic, was hosted by Moscow in 1973, whereas Kazan, capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, hosted the 2013 Summer Universiade. It is the first Winter Universiade hosted by Russia, and the second time that the event was held in a former USSR republic.
