The 2005 Polynesian Championships in Athletics took place in October [1] or November, [2] 2005. The event was held at the Stade Pater Te Hono Nui in Papeete, French Polynesia.
A total of 22 events were contested, 11 by men, 10 by women, and 1 mixed.

French Polynesia is an overseas collectivity of France and its sole overseas country. It comprises 121 geographically dispersed islands and atolls stretching over more than 2,000 kilometres (1,200 mi) in the South Pacific Ocean. The total land area of French Polynesia is 3,521 square kilometres (1,359 sq mi), with a population of 278,786 of which at least 205,000 live in the Society Islands and the remaining population lives in the rest of the archipelago.
Oscar Manutahi Temaru is a Tahitian politician. He has been President of French Polynesia, an overseas collectivity of France, on five occasions: in 2004, from 2005 to 2006, from 2007 to 2008, in 2009, and from 2011 to 2013 and mayor of Faa'a since 1983.

Tahaʻa is an island located among the western group, the Leeward Islands, of the Society Islands in French Polynesia, an overseas territory of France in the South Pacific Ocean. The islands of Tahaʻa and neighboring Raiatea to the immediate south are enclosed by the same coral reef, and they may once have been a single island. At the 2022 census it had a population of 5,296. The island has an area of 90 square kilometres. Mount Ohiri is the highest mountain on the island standing at 590 metres (1,940 ft) above sea level. It is also known as the "Vanilla Island" and produces pearls of exceptional quality.

Manihi, or Paeua, is a coral atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago, part of French Polynesia. It is one of the northernmost of the Tuamotus, located in the King George subgroup. The closest land to Manihi is Ahe Atoll, located 14 km to the west. The population is 648 inhabitants.

The 2004 Oceania Youth Athletics Championships were held at the Townsville Sports Reserve in Townsville, Australia, between December 16–18, 2004. They were held together with the 2004 Oceania Open Championships. A total of 35 events were contested, 18 by boys and 17 by girls.
The 2007 Polynesian Championships in Athletics took place between October 16–17, 2007. The event was held in Rarotonga, Cook Islands, in conjunction with the Cook Islands Secondary School Championships and the Cook Island National Track and Field Championships. It was open for athletes aged under 19. Detailed reports were given for the OAA, and for the French Polynesia Athletics Federation.
The 2009 Polynesian Championships in Athletics took place between August 4–8, 2009. The event was held at the Griffith University in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, jointly with the OAA Grand Prix Series, and the OAA sub-regional Melanesian and Micronesian Championships. Many athletes utilised the competitions preparing for the upcoming IAAF World Championships in Berlin, Germany. Detailed reports were given for the OAA.
Titaua Juventin is an athletics administrator from French Polynesia. She is the president of the Athletics Federation of French Polynesia and represents Tahiti on the Oceania Athletics Association.
The COVID-19 pandemic was confirmed to have reached the French overseas collectivity of French Polynesia in March 2020. As of 24 August 2021, French Polynesia has been the most severely impacted region in Oceania both in terms of proportion relative to population of total confirmed cases and total deaths. French Polynesia has experienced two significant outbreak waves, the first between September 2020 - January 2021, and the ongoing second wave which began in July 2021.
Elodie Menou, also known as Elodie Mevel, is a French Polynesian long-distance runner who has represented French Polynesia at the Pacific Games and Pacific Mini Games. She is the mother of runner Loïc Mevel.
Tahiti competed at the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara from 19 November to 2 December 2023. Tahitian athletes have appeared at every edition of the Pacific Games since the inaugural games in 1963.
