The 5th Women's European Amateur Boxing Championships were held in Warsaw, Poland from September 4 to 10, 2006. This edition of the recurring competition was organised by the European governing body for amateur boxing, EABA. Competitions took place in 13 weight classes. [1]

Contents

Russia topped the medals table, as they had done in the four previous editions of these championships.

The European Union Amateur Boxing Championships is a competition for amateur boxers from the European Union and its candidate countries. The championships are organised by the continent's governing body, the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC). The first edition of the men's tournament took place in 2003 in Strasbourg, France and the women's in 2006 in Porto Torres, Italy. The men's tournament was held annually from 2003 to 2009 and every four years since 2014, while the women's tournament was held annually from 2006 to 2011 and every four years since 2013.

Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom is an Indian amateur boxer, politician, and former Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha. She is the only woman to win the World Amateur Boxing Championship six times, the only female boxer to have won a medal in each one of the first seven World Championships, and the only boxer to win eight World Championship medals. Nicknamed Magnificent Mary, she was the only Indian female boxer to have qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics, where she competed in the flyweight (51 kg) category and won a bronze medal. She had also been ranked as the world's No. 1 female light-flyweight by the International Boxing Association (amateur) (AIBA). She became the first Indian female boxer to win a gold medal in the Asian Games in 2014 at Incheon, South Korea and is the first Indian female boxer to win gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She is also the only boxer to become Asian Amateur Boxing Champion for a record six times. Mary Kom won the 51kg gold in President's Cup in Indonesia.

This was the 6th edition of this annual competition organised by the European governing body for amateur boxing, the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC). 84 fighters from 20 federations competed in 10 weight divisions.

Ferhat Pehlivan is a Turkish amateur boxer competing in the light-flyweight division. The 1.68 m tall boxer at 49 kg (108 lb) was a member of the Karnet S.K. in Akçaabat, Trabzon before he transferred to Fenerbahçe Boxing. He is coached by Altar Kalkışım. He is a student at the Atatürk University in Erzurum.

The 2008 Women's European Union Amateur Boxing Championships were held in the Greenbank Sports Academy in Liverpool, England from August 4 to 8. This was the 3rd edition of this annual competition, and was organised by the European governing body for amateur boxing, EABA.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2009 Women's European Amateur Boxing Championships</span> Boxing competitions

The 7th Women's European Amateur Boxing Championships were held in Mykolaiv, Ukraine from September 15 to 20, 2009. This edition of the recurring competition was organised by the European governing body for amateur boxing, EUBC. 113 fighters representing 26 federations competed in 11 weight classes, the limits of which had changed since the previous edition of the championships.

Boxing in Armenia is a popular sport, that existed in the Armenian Highland since ancient times. Amateur boxing schools in the country appeared in early 1900s, by the mid-1950s boxing became one of the traditional sports in Armenia. In 1956, Vladimir Yengibaryan won a gold medal at the Olympics for the Soviet team. In the early 21st century, professional and amateur boxing in Armenia reached another peak. Most notably Arthur Abraham and Vic Darchinyan won several professional world champion titles. Dozens of amateur boxers have been placed in the top 3 of world and European competitions for various weight categories. Vladimir Yengibarian was among the first individuals to open professional boxing schools in Armenia. The sport is regulated by the Armenian Boxing Federation.
