Giovanni De Benedictis is a retired Italian race walker, that won 9 medals at individual level, 7 of these at senior level, at the International athletics competitions. He participated at five editions of the Summer Olympics, this like only two others Italian athletes in track and field: the other racewalker champion Abdon Pamich and the sprinter Pietro Mennea. He also won four medals at the IAAF World Race Walking Cup team events.
Viktor Mostovik is a retired Moldovan race walker. He won his first medal, a bronze, at the 1981 European Athletics Junior Championships.
Anikó Kálovics is a Hungarian runner who specializes in the 10,000 metres and the marathon. She is a four-time Olympian (2000–2012) and has won both the Venice Marathon and Italian Marathon.
Katalin Szentgyörgyi is a retired Hungarian long-distance runner who specialized in the 5000 metres.

The event was established in 1989 as South American Race Walking Cup, and was occurring annually at first. The 2001 event was held in conjunction with the Pan American Race Walking Cup. The name as well as the frequency of the competition were changed in 2004.

The event was established in 2007 as Central American Race Walking Cup. The name was changed in 2012. Races are featured for senior, junior, youth, and two age groups for both male and female athletes. In addition, there are separate team competitions.

The 2002 South American Race Walking Championships were held in Puerto Saavedra, Chile, on September 14–15, 2002. The event was also known as South American Race Walking Cup.
The 2001 South American Race Walking Championships were held in Cuenca, Ecuador, on October 27–28, 2001. The track of the Cup runs in the Avenida España, Parque Calderón. The event was held jointly with the 2001 Pan American Race Walking Cup. The results for the 20 km races were extracted from the Pan American Race Walking Cup results, while the South American Race Walking Championships additionally featured separate races for men in 35 km, and for junior and youth athletes.
Massimo Stano is a male Italian racewalker. He competed in the 20 kilometres walk event at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics in Beijing, China, finishing in the 19th position, and the same event at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan, finishing in first place. On 24 July 2022, Stano won the 2022 World Athletics Championships with a championship record.
