AIK continued treading water in a disappointing season. The failure to qualify for European competitions ensured popular coach Rikard Norling got the sack, much to the dismay of the AIK supporters.
In January, AIK announced the signing of Jorge Anchén to a three-year contract from Bella Vista. [1]
On 29 July, AIK announced the signing of Tomi Maanoja to a three-and-a-half-year contract from Honka. [2]

The 2008 season was Malmö FF's 97th in existence, their 73rd season in Allsvenskan and their 8th consecutive season in the league. They competed in Allsvenskan where they finished in 6th position and Svenska Cupen where they were knocked out in the fourth round. The season was Roland Nilssons first season as Malmö FF manager and the last season for the club at Malmö Stadion before moving to Swedbank Stadion for the 2009 season. To celebrate the club's 51-year stay at the stadium, an alternative home kit was used for the first and last match of the league season. The last league match at Malmö Stadion was played against GIF Sundsvall on 9 November and won 6–0 by Malmö FF.
AIK had a disappointing season, where the team did not win a single match in the wake of the sale of Brazilian star Wílton Figueiredo, dropping out of the title chase, missing European qualification in the process. Argentine recruits Iván Obolo and Lucas Valdemarín impressed upon their arrivals, forming an impressive unit with Figueiredo, which was curtailed when Al-Rayyan bought Figueiredo in September. The defense was arguably AIK's greatest asset, conceding just 28 goals, led by keeper Daniel Örlund and new talisman Nils-Eric Johansson.
AIK had a sensational season, winning 14 league matches by the odd goal, to claim their first domestic title since 1998, also winning the cup final against IFK Göteborg, also title rivals in the league, which was decided in a straight run-in between the two candidates. There, AIK turned around a 1–0 deficit to win 2–1 and claim the title, more than enough, considering a draw had landed the title as well. Key players in the title success included goalkeeper Daniel Örlund, conceding just 20 goals all season, plus new defensive general Jos Hooiveld, midfielder Jorge Ortiz and striker Iván Obolo, all of them departing following the title success.
AIK suffered from a season of turmoil, starting with high-profile loan signing Sebastián Eguren being a flop, continuing with the resignation of 2009 double-winning coach Mikael Stahre and the reigning champions getting involved in a relegation scrap. A disappointing display in Europe, getting knocked out of both the Champions League and the Europa League early was followed by a decent autumn, which at least saved the contract, much thanks to IFK Värnamo recruit Mohamed Bangura proving to be a success.
