2013 Bolivian special municipal elections

The 2013 Bolivian special municipal elections were held on 13 January 2013 in the municipalities of Punata (in Cochabamba Department) and Bermejo (in Tarija Department. [1] Newly elected mayors will receive their credentials from the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, after which they may be sworn in.

The Villa Tunari – San Ignacio de Moxos Highway, also known as the Cochabamba–Beni Highway is a road project in Bolivia connecting the towns of Villa Tunari and San Ignacio de Moxos. It would provide the first direct highway link between the two departments. The project has an expected overall cost of $415 million and extends 306 kilometres (190 mi), divided into three segments: Segment I from Villa Tunari to Isinuta, Segment II from Isinuta to Monte Grande, and Segment III from Monte Grande to San Ignacio de Moxos. Opposition to the highway by local indigenous communities, environmentalists, as well as shifting relations between the Bolivian government and the project's builders and funders interrupted construction of Segment I from October 2011 until October 2013, indefinitely delayed Segment II, and postponed construction of Segment III until June 2015. Segment II will proceed after the government has promised to raise living standards in the area.

The 2011 Bolivian special municipal elections were held on 18 December 2011. These elections cover three of five municipalities currently without elected mayors in Bolivia: Sucre, Quillacollo, and Pazña. Elections for the Mayor of Punata will be held 29 April or 6 May 2012. Newly elected mayors will receive their credentials from the Supreme Electoral Tribunal on 27 January 2011, after which they may be sworn in.

René Joaquino Cabrera is a Bolivian politician and the founder the Social Alliance political party. Joaquino was born on February 27, 1966, in the community of Asientos, part of Chicoca Chica ayllu and within the canton of Tomave, Antonio Quijarro Province, Potosí Department. He was twice elected mayor of the city of Potosí, in 2004 and 2010, but was suspended from that office on August 18, 2010. He resumed his duties on February 7, 2013. Joaquino was the city's first indigenous mayor. In the run up to the 2014 national elections, Joaquino reconciled with the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) party and became their candidate for Potosí's first seat in the Senate of the Plurinational Legislative Assembly. He was elected to that office on October 12, 2014, and will serve as Senator from 2015 to 2020.

Basilio Sánchez Beguiristáin was a Chilean physician. Between May 1960 and May 1963, Sánchez was the 26th Mayor of the commune of Pichilemu. He was also one of the founding members of the Pichilemu Fire Department and was, for decades, the director of Pichilemu Hospital.
