Aminata Savadogo, occasionally known as simply Aminata, is a singer, songwriter, record producer, and model. She represented Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Love Injected". She released her debut studio album, Inner Voice, in April 2015.
Latvia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Love Injected", written and performed by Aminata. Latvian broadcaster Latvijas Televīzija (LTV) organised a new national selection show titled Supernova 2015 in order to select the Latvian entry. "Love Injected" performed by Aminata was the eventual winner of the competition, winning the right to represent Latvia at the 2015 contest in Vienna, Austria. In the second of the Eurovision semi-finals "Love Injected" placed second out of the 17 participating countries, securing its place among the 27 other songs in the final. This was the first time in six years that Latvia had managed to qualify to a Eurovision final. In Latvia's sixteenth Eurovision appearance on 23 May, "Love Injected" finished in sixth place, receiving 186 points and full marks from three countries. This was Latvia's best finish in the contest since 2005.

Raimonds Vējonis is the current President of Latvia, in office since 2015. He is a member of the Green Party, part of the Union of Greens and Farmers. He served as Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development in 2002 and in 2011 and as Minister of the Environment from 2003 to 2011, while the Ministry of Regional Development was a separate department. He became Minister of Defence of Latvia in 2014 and held that office until becoming President in 2015.

The Latvian Green Party is a green political party in Latvia. It was founded on 13 January 1990 and is a member of the European Green Party. Unusually for a green party in Europe, the LZP is generally considered a centre-right party. Leading politicians of the party have often supported reactionary, nationalist, and anti-LGBT positions. The party has only gained representation in the Saeima by forming electoral alliances with other parties.
The University of Latvia (LU) is a state-run university located in Riga, Latvia. It was established in 1919.
Valters and Kaža, sometimes spelt Walters and Kazha were a Latvian duo consisting of Valters Frīdenbergs and Kārlis Būmeisters, who represented their homeland in the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest. The slow ballad-like song "The War Is Not Over", authored by Mārtiņš Freimanis, finished in fifth place, despite having a considerably large lead at some point during the voting.
The Latvian National Theatre is one of the leading professional theatres in Latvia. It is a modern theatre that is proud of its 100-year history. The building is in eclectic style and it is an architectural and art monument. The country Latvia was proclaimed in this building in the year 1918. On 23 February, the theatre will celebrate its 100 anniversary. The director of National Theatre of Latvia from the year 2006 is Ojars Rubenis.
The participation of Latvia in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest first began at the inaugural Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 which took place in Copenhagen, Denmark. Latvijas Televīzija (LTV), a member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), were responsible for the selection process of their participation. Latvia used a national selection format, broadcasting shows entitled "Bērnu Eirovīzija" and later "Balss Pavēlnieks", for their participation at the contests. The first representative to participate for the nation at the 2003 contest was Dzintars Čīča with the song "Tu esi vasarā", which finished in ninth place out of sixteen participating entries, achieving a score of thirty-seven points. Latvia were originally absent from the competition from 2006 to 2009. Latvia briefly returned in 2010 and 2011 however again withdrew from competing after the contest held in Yerevan, and have yet to make their return to the contest.

Musiqq is a Latvian pop music duo from Liepāja formed by Marats Ogļezņevs and Emīls Balceris. The duo first gained exposure in June 2009 with the release of their first single “Klimata kontrole”("Climate control"), but on October 1 their second single "Abrakadabra" came out, which was a radio hit in Latvia and "SEB Musical Bank 2009" winner. Their debut album "Šī ir tikai mūzika"("This is just a music") was released in March 2010, which included radio hits such as "Abrakadabra", "Dzimšanas diena" ("Birthday") and "Klimata kontrole". Both singers were awarded as "Gada Liepājnieks"("Liepajnieks of the year" is a prize awarded for those, who have invested their time, effort and talent into making the city a better place) in nomination "'Music" and received three Copyright infinity prizes, because their songs are the most played on the radio, television and concerts. Musiqq represented Latvia in 2011 Eurovision Song Contest in a German city Düsseldorf with the song "Angel in Disguise". They are also known as Latvian rap duo called "Bermudu Divstūris", which formed in 2011.
Andris Bērziņš is a Latvian businessman and politician who was President of Latvia from 2011 to 2015. Bērziņš was the President of Unibanka from 1993 to 2004. He was elected as President by the Saeima on 2 June 2011.
Vella kalpi is a 1970 film produced and distributed by Rigas Kinostudija. It was written and directed by Aleksandrs Leimanis during the time Latvia was part of the Soviet Union. It was released in the United Kingdom as Devil's servants and the Soviet Union as Slugi dyavola. In 1972, Rīgas kinostudija released a sequel to this film named Vella kalpi Vella dzirnavās.
Supernova is a Latvian music entertainment show created by the Latvian broadcaster, LTV. It is currently used as the Latvian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest.
Indirect presidential elections were held in Latvia on 3 June 2015. Raimonds Vējonis of the Green Party was elected President and took office on 8 July. According to the European Green Party, he is the first of their members to become a head of state of a European Union member state.

Latvia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with the song "Heartbeat" written by Aminata Savadogo. The song was performed by Justs. Songwriter Aminata Savadogo represented Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Love Injected" where she placed sixth in the grand final of the competition. The Latvian broadcaster Latvijas Televīzija (LTV) organised the national final Supernova 2016 in order to select the Latvian entry for the 2016 contest in Stockholm, Sweden. Twenty songs were selected to compete in the national final, which consisted of four shows: two heats, one semi-final and a final. In the heats and the semi-final, four entries were selected to advance from each show: two entries selected based on a public televote and two entries selected by a four-member jury panel. Four songs ultimately qualified to compete in the final on 28 February 2016 where a public vote exclusively selected "Heartbeat" performed by Justs as the winner.
