The 2017 European Motocross Championship was the 29th European Motocross Championship season since it was revived in 1988. It included 15 events and 6 different classes. It started at Maggiora in Italy on 16 April, and ended at Villars-sous-Écot in France on 17 September. [1] All rounds acted as support classes at the European rounds of the 2017 MXGP.
A 9-round calendar for the 2017 season was announced on 20 October 2016. [1] EMX250 is for riders competing on 4-stroke motorcycles between 175cc-250cc.

During race 1, Moldovan rider Igor Cuharciuc succumbed to his injuries following a crash. In response the race was red flagged and the rest of the EMX85 championship cancelled.

Antonio "Tony" Cairoli is an Italian retired professional motocross racer. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 2002 to 2021. Cairoli is notable for winning nine FIM Motocross World Championships. He was also a member of the winning Italian team at the 2021 Motocross des Nations.
The 2015 FIM Motocross World Championship was the 59th F.I.M. Motocross World Championship season. It included 18 events, starting at Losail in Qatar on 28 February, and ending at San Bernardino, California in the United States on 20 September. In the main MXGP class, Tony Cairoli was the six-time defending champion, and entered the 2015 season looking to score a record seventh consecutive premier class title, for Red Bull KTM. He and Maximilian Nagl started the year strong, and as the German round rolled around Nagl had a 30 points lead over Cairoli and 38 over rookie Romain Febvre. Nagl got injured on practice and missed the next 5 rounds, ending his hopes of a maiden championship. Cairoli was struggling during the summer and ended up injured as well. The 2017 British Motocross Championship is the 66th British Motocross Championship season. Tommy Searle will start the season as the defending Champion in the MX1 class having taken his first national title in 2016. In the MX2 class, Adam Sterry starts the season as defending champion, but he will not compete in the series in 2017. For 2017, a new national 2-stroke championship will be contested at four rounds of the championship.

Valentin Guillod is a Swiss professional Motocross racer. Guillod has competed in the Motocross World Championship since 2010 and is a three-time grand prix winner in the MX2 class.
