The 2017 Norwegian Football Cup final was the final match of the 2017 Norwegian Football Cup, the 112th season of the Norwegian Football Cup, the premier Norwegian football cup competition organized by the Football Association of Norway (NFF). The match was played on 3 December 2017 at the Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo, and opposed two Eliteserien sides Lillestrøm and Sarpsborg 08. Lillestrøm defeated Sarpsborg 08 3–2 to claim the Norwegian Cup for a sixth time in their history and a first since 2007. [3]

Sarpsborg 08 Fotballforening, commonly known as Sarpsborg 08 or simply Sarpsborg, is a Norwegian football club based in Sarpsborg, playing in Eliteserien. Sarpsborg 08 and its predecessors played in 1. divisjon from 2005 to 2010. In 2010, the club was promoted to the Tippeligaen, the top league in Norway, but finished last and was relegated back to 1. divisjon in 2011. In 2012, they were promoted again and 6 years after, they qualified for their first Europa League group stage. They play their home games at Sarpsborg Stadion.

A promotion/relegation play-off between the third-from-bottom team of the Tippeligaen and the winner of the promotion play-offs of the 2016 1. divisjon was contested on 30 November and 4 December 2016.

The 2015 Norwegian Football Cup final took place at Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo on November 22, 2015. Rosenborg were in their 16th final with a chance to win a Double, after they won a Tippeligaen, while Sarpsborg 08 were in their first final ever and had the chance to win the first trophy in the club's history.

The 2019 Eliteserien promotion/relegation play-offs was the 46th time a spot in the Eliteserien was decided by play-off matches between top tier and second level clubs. In the play-offs, five teams competed for one spot in the 2020 Eliteserien.

The 2021 Eliteserien was the 77th completed season of top-tier football in Norway. This was fifth season of Eliteserien as rebranding from Tippeligaen.
