The 1991 1. divisjon, Norway's second-tier football league, began play on 28 April 1991 and ended on 6 October 1991. The league was contested by 24 teams, divided in two groups and the winner of each group won promotion to Tippeligaen, while the runners-up played a promotion-playoff against the 10th placed team in the 1991 Tippeligaen. The season was to start initially on 21 March 2020 but due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was delayed. It finally commenced on 3 July 2020 and ended on 6 December 2020. This season featured just 10 teams.

The 2020 1. divisjon was the 36th season of the 1. divisjon, the second-tier Norwegian women's football division, and the 19th season under the current format. The season started on 11 July 2020 and ended on 22 November 2020
