The World Chess Championship 1886 was the first official World Chess Championship match contested by Wilhelm Steinitz and Johannes Zukertort. The match took place in the United States from 11 January to 29 March, the first five games being played in New York City, the next four being played in St. Louis and the final eleven in New Orleans. The winner was the first player to achieve ten wins. Wilhelm Steinitz won the match 10–5, winning his tenth game in the twentieth game of the match. There were five draws.

The 2010–11 Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball team represented the University of Wisconsin–Madison in the 2010–11 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by Bo Ryan in his 10th season as coach of the Badgers. They played their home games at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin as members of the Big Ten Conference. They finished the season 25–9, 13–5 in Big Ten play to finish in fourth place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten tournament to Penn State. The Badgers received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 4 seed in the Southeast Region. There they defeated Belmont in the Second Round before beating Kansas State in the Third Round to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. In the Sweet Sixteen, they were defeated by eventual National Runner-up Butler.

The 2012–13 Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball team represented the University of Wisconsin–Madison during the 2012–13 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. This was Bo Ryan's 12th season as head coach at Wisconsin. The Badgers played their home games at the Kohl Center and were members of the Big Ten Conference. They finished the season 23–12, 12–6 in Big Ten play to tie for fourth place. The team advanced to the championship game of the 2013 Big Ten tournament where it lost to Ohio State. Wisconsin received an at-large bid to the 2013 NCAA tournament where the team lost in the second round to Ole Miss.
