The 2017 Orange County SC season was the club's seventh season of existence, their third in the United Soccer League, and their first in the second tier of American soccer. This was the club's first year being branded as Orange County SC after previously being known as Orange County Blues FC from 2014 through 2017 and the LA Blues from 2011 to 2014.

Contents

Background

Playing the first season as Orange County SC, the team finished with a record of 11-11-10, 6-6-4 at home. [1] The team played their first four games away due to the ongoing construction of their temporary stadium at Orange County Great Park, while Championship Soccer Stadium was under construction. The first home game was week 7, May 6, 2017, against LA Galaxy II, resulting in a 4-0 Orange County victory. [2] Due to insufficient lighting in the temporary field games started at 5:00 pm PST.

The first game played in the new Championship Soccer Stadium was August 5, 2017, against Tulsa Roughnecks ending in a scoreless draw. [3]

The team finished the season in 10th place in the Western Conference and did not qualify for playoffs, three points behind Sacramento Republic FC in 8th place.

OCSC played three away games for the US Open Cup, defeating FC Golden State Force (5-2) [4] and LA Wolves FC (1-0), [5] before losing to LA Galaxy (1-3) [6] at Dignity Health Sports stadium.

At the conclusion of the season, Head Coach Logan Pause was released, announced Nov 27. [7]

The 2017 Tulsa Roughnecks FC season was the club's third season of existence, and their third in the United Soccer League. It is the club's first season playing in the second division of American soccer following U.S. Soccer's sanctioning of USL as a Division II professional league. Including the previous iterations of franchises named "Tulsa Roughnecks", this is the 17th season of a soccer club named the "Roughnecks" playing in the Tulsa metropolitan area.

The 2018 Los Angeles FC season was the club's inaugural season, and their first season in Major League Soccer, the top-tier of the American soccer pyramid. Los Angeles FC play its home games at the Banc of California Stadium in Exposition Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. Outside of MLS play, LAFC participated in the 2018 U.S. Open Cup tournament, and qualified for the 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs, being eliminated in the knockout round.

The 2018 LA Galaxy II season was the club's fifth season of existence.

The 2017 Swope Park Rangers season was the club's 2nd year of play, along with their second season in the Western Conference of the United Soccer League, the second tier of the United States Soccer Pyramid. For the 2nd straight year the Swope Park Rangers finished fourth in the Western Conference and were runners-up in the USL Championship; they lost 1-0 to Louisville City FC in the final.

The 2018 Orange County SC season was the club's eighth season of existence, and their eighth consecutive season in the United Soccer League, the second tier of American soccer. Orange County also competed in the U.S. Open Cup. The season covered the period from October 14, 2017, to the beginning of the 2019 USL season.

The 2018 Tulsa Roughnecks FC season was the 4th season for Tulsa Roughnecks FC, now known as FC Tulsa, in the United Soccer League (USL), the second-tier professional soccer league in the United States and Canada.

The 2019 San Antonio FC season was the club's fourth season of existence. Including the San Antonio Thunder of the original NASL and the former San Antonio Scorpions of the modern NASL, this was the 10th season of professional soccer in San Antonio. The 2019 Tacoma Defiance season was the club's fifth year of existence, previously for the last four seasons as Seattle Sounders FC 2, and their fifth season in the USL Championship, the second tier of the United States Soccer Pyramid. It was the team's second season playing in the Tacoma, Washington. The Defiance are majority owned by Seattle Sounders FC.

The 2019 Orange County SC season was the club's ninth season of existence, and their ninth consecutive season in the United Soccer League Championship, the second tier of American soccer. Orange County were also scheduled to compete in the U.S. Open Cup.

The 2020 Orange County SC season was the club's tenth season of existence, and their tenth consecutive season in the United Soccer League Championship, the second tier of American soccer. Orange County were also scheduled to compete in the U.S. Open Cup.
