The 2017 Chicago Fire season was the club's 19th year of existence, as well as their 20th season in Major League Soccer, the top-flight of American soccer. The Fire reached the playoffs for the first time since 2012, losing in the knockout round.

Primary kit

According to the league's bi-annual rotation of kits the primary kit carried over from the previous season. It was originally unveiled on January 25, 2016. The jersey features an all-red design with the return of the iconic white bar across the chest. The Chicago city flag embossed on the lower front for the jersey's jock tag. [49] [50]

Secondary kit

The new secondary kit has been unveiled by the club on February 6, 2017. It's gray color is based on the same tone as the center of the club's logo. The jersey has the high V-neck collar and features blue numbers, names and trim, with red accents and "EST. 1997" on jock tag. The back neck tape has crossed axes, as the primary kit. Six-pointed stars from Chicago city flag are placed on the sleeve trim as well as socks. [51] [52]

This was the Fire's first full year under the ownership of Joe Mansueto following his purchase of the club on September 13, 2019. This was also the Fire's first season back in city limits, playing in Soldier Field for the first time since 2005. The Fire faced Atlanta United FC in their first home match. The team also announced a rebrand on November 21, 2019. They became known as Chicago Fire Football Club and changed their logo. The change was met with large amounts of negative reaction on social media. The Fire failed to advance out of the group stage of the MLS is Back Tournament. After finishing 11th in the Eastern Conference, the team did not qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2021 MLS SuperDraft</span>

The 2021 MLS SuperDraft was the 22nd edition of the SuperDraft conducted by Major League Soccer. The SuperDraft is held every January prior to the start of the MLS season. The 2020 SuperDraft was the first held exclusively via conference call and web streaming. The Draft was once again held virtually, and began on January 21, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and consisted of three rounds. Compensatory picks were conveyed to teams that received fourth-round picks via trades.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2023 MLS SuperDraft</span> Soccer league annual draft

The 2023 MLS SuperDraft was the 24th edition of the SuperDraft conducted by Major League Soccer. It was held on December 21, 2022, becoming the first SuperDraft to be held in December, but retained the 2023 branding. The draft was conducted via conference call and streamed online. Previously, the SuperDraft had been held in conjunction with the annual January United Soccer Coaches convention.
