Contents

In 2017, deputies of the Slovak National Council voted to extend the term of governors from 4 years to 5 years, and change from a 2-round election to only 1 round. [2]

The turnout was around 30%, biggest in the history of Slovak regional elections.

Marian Kotleba is a Slovak politician and leader of the far-right, neo-Nazi political party Kotlebists – People's Party Our Slovakia.

The 12th OTO Awards, honoring the best in Slovak popular culture for the year 2011, took time and place on March 9, 2012 at the Opera of the Slovak National Theater in Bratislava. The ceremony broadcast live RTVS on Jednotka. The hosts of the show were Marián Čekovský and Michal Hudák.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2016 Slovak parliamentary election</span>

Parliamentary elections were held in Slovakia on 5 March 2016 to elect the 150 members of the National Council. The ruling left-wing populist Direction – Social Democracy (SMER–SD) party remained the strongest party, but lost its majority. The Slovak Democratic and Christian Union – Democratic Party (SDKÚ-DS), which led the government between 2000–06 and 2010–12, was defeated heavily, failing to cross the electoral threshold and losing its representation in the National Council. The centre-right Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) also failed to cross the threshold for the first time since 1990, whilst the far-right nationalist Kotleba – People's Party Our Slovakia (ĽSNS) entered parliament for the first time.

Homeland was a non-parliamentary political party in Slovakia.

Presidential elections will be held in Slovakia no later than April 2024 according to the Constitution of Slovakia. The first round of the last presidential election was held on 16 March 2019, so the next election is expected to be held on 17 March 2024. It may, however, be held earlier under exceptional circumstances such as the resignation or death of the President.

Jaroslav Baška is a Slovak politician. Baška has served as a member of the National Council in the Direction – Slovak Social Democracy caucus since 2002. In addition, he has been the governor of Trenčín Region since 2013. In 2008-2010, he served as the Minister of Defense.
