The 2024 European Parliament election in Slovakia will be held on 8 June 2024 as part of the 2024 European Parliament election. [1] This will be the fifth European Parliament election held in Slovakia, and the first to take place after Brexit. [2]
The Slovakian government and the European Union have clashed over domestic legal reforms. [3]
Compared to last election, Slovakia is entitled to two more MEP: one already assigned in 2020 in the occasion of the redistribution post Brexit, and one assigned in 2023 after a pre-election assessment of the Parliament composition based on the most recent population figures. [4] The 15 members are elected through semi-open list proportional representation in a single nationwide constituency with seats allocated through largest remainder method and a 5% electoral threshold. [5]
Both Slovakian citizens and other non-Slovakian EU citizens residing in the country are entitled to vote in the European elections in Slovakian. No registration is needed for Slovakian citizens, while other EU citizens residing in Slovakia are required to register in their municipality no later than 40 days before the election day. Slovakian citizens residing abroad cannot vote from abroad but can vote if present on the day of the election in Slovakia with a Slovakian passport. In addition, those eligible to vote must turn 18 years old by election day at the latest. [6]

The Slovak Democratic and Christian Union – Democratic Party is a liberal-conservative, Christian-democratic political party in Slovakia. The SDKÚ-DS was a member of the Centrist Democrat International and was a member of the European People's Party until 2018, when it was expelled due to inactivity.
Freedom and Solidarity, also called Saska, is a centre-right liberal and libertarian political party in Slovakia. Established in 2009, SaS was founded by economist Richard Sulík, who designed Slovakia's flat tax system. It generally holds anti-state and neoliberal positions. After the 2020 Slovak parliamentary election, the party lost several seats in the National Council but became part of the coalition government with Ordinary People and Independent Personalities, For the People, and We Are Family. It is led by businessman Branislav Gröhling.
Martin Poliačik is a Slovak politician. He is a member of the National Council of the Slovak Republic. and Progressive Slovakia.
Parliamentary elections were held in Slovakia on 5 March 2016 to elect the 150 members of the National Council. The ruling left-wing populist Direction – Social Democracy (SMER–SD) party remained the strongest party, but lost its majority. The Slovak Democratic and Christian Union – Democratic Party (SDKÚ-DS), which led the government between 2000–06 and 2010–12, was defeated heavily, failing to cross the electoral threshold and losing its representation in the National Council. The centre-right Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) also failed to cross the threshold for the first time since 1990, whilst the far-right nationalist Kotleba – People's Party Our Slovakia (ĽSNS) entered parliament for the first time.

Lucia Ďuriš Nicholsonová is a Slovak politician who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament since 2019. A former journalist, she previously served as State Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, Social and Family Affairs, and vice-chairwoman of the National Council of Slovakia. As a member of the Freedom and Solidarity political party, Nicholsonová was elected as a member of the National Council during the 2010 Slovak parliamentary election, served as State Secretary and later became part of the Social Affairs Committee.
Marcel Kolaja is a Czech software engineer, Internet freedom and digital rights activist and a Czech Pirate Party politician who serves as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) since the 2019 election and Quaestor of the European Parliament since 2022. He is a member of the Greens–European Free Alliance parliamentary group along with three other European Pirate Party MEPs.
Elections for the 2019 European Parliament election took place in Slovakia on 25 May 2019. Thirty-one parties featured on the electoral list. The election was won by alliance of Progressive Slovakia and TOGETHER - Civic Democracy. It was the first election since 2006 that was won by some other party than Direction – Social Democracy.
Markéta Gregorová is a Czech politician. She was elected as a Member of the European Parliament in the 2019 election, representing the Czech Pirate Party. Gregorová serves as the Vice-Chair of the Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, and is a member of the Committee on International Trade and the Special Committee on Foreign Interference in all Democratic Processes in the European Union, including Disinformation.
Milan Uhrík is a Slovak politician and non-inscrit MEP. He is a former deputy of the National Council of the Slovak Republic for the far-right People's Party Our Slovakia (ĽSNS) and member of the Foreign Committee of the Slovak Republic.
