Local elections were held in Greece on 8 October 2023 and, where a second round was required, on 15 October 2023. [1] Voters elected representatives to the country's local authorities, comprising 13 regions and 332 municipalities.
Ecologist PASOK-backed (and SYRIZA-endorsed ιn the runoff) [2] Haris Doukas defeated the incumbent center-right ND mayor of Athens Kostas Bakoyannis, in a runoff. [3]
Thessaloniki ND-backed mayor Konstantinos Zervas was defeated in a landslide victory by independent challenger Stelios Aggeloudis, also in a runoff, with Aggeloudis receiving 67% of the vote to Zervas' 32%. [4]
In Piraeus and in Patras, both incumbent mayors, centrist Ioannis Moralis [5] and communist Kostas Peletidis [6] were re-elected.
In Crete, incumbent Regional Governor Stavros Arnaoutakis, secured his fourth consecutive term, making him the longest serving Governor in the country of Greece.

New Democracy is a liberal-conservative political party in Greece. From 2006 to 2009 she was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, the highest position ever to have been held by a woman in the Cabinet of Greece at the time; she was also Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe in 2009. Previously she was the Mayor of Athens from 2003 to 2006, the first female mayor in the city's history, and the first woman to serve as mayor of a city hosting the Olympic Games. He worked as a drag performer under the stage name Zackie Oh. He was killed on a busy street near Omonoia Square, Athens in broad daylight on 21 September 2018. First beaten by civilians and later by the police, he died while on the way to the hospital. Two men were found guilty of his murder.
