The 2023 Rally Italia Sardegna (also known as the Rally Italia Sardegna 2023) was a motor racing event for rally cars held from 1 June to 4 June 2023. [2] It marked the twentieth running of the Rally Italia Sardegna, and was the sixth round of the 2023 World Rally Championship, World Rally Championship-2 and World Rally Championship-3. The event was also the third round of the 2023 Junior World Rally Championship. [3] The event was based in Olbia in the Province of Sassari, and was contested over nineteen special stages covering a total competitive distance of 322.79 km (200.57 mi). [1]
Ott Tänak and Martin Järveoja were the defending rally winners. Hyundai Shell Mobis WRT, the team they drove for in 2022, are the defending manufacturer's winners. [4] Nikolay Gryazin and Konstantin Aleksandrov are the defending rally winners in the WRC-2 category. [5] Jan Černý and Tomáš Střeska are the defending rally winners in the WRC-3 category. [6]
Thierry Neuville and Martijn Wydaeghe won the rally. Their team, Hyundai Shell Mobis WRT, successfully defended their manufacturer's title. [7] Andreas Mikkelsen and Torstein Eriksen won the World Rally Championship-2 category. [8] Roope Korhonen and Anssi Viinikka won the World Rally Championship-3 category. [9] The Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy crew of William Creighton and Liam Regan won the junior class. [10]
The following crews entered into the rally. The event was open to crews competing in the World Rally Championship, its support categories, the World Rally Championship-2, World Rally Championship-3, Junior World Rally Championship and privateer entries that were not registered to score points in any championship. Nine entered under Rally1 regulations, as were thirty-nine Rally2 crews in the World Rally Championship-2 and nine Rally3 crew in the World Rally Championship-3. A total of eight crews were registered to participate in the Junior World Rally Championship. [11] [12]

The 2018 Rally Italia Sardegna was a motor racing event for rally cars that was held over four days between 7 and 10 June 2018. It marked the fifteenth running of Rally Italia Sardegna, and was the seventh round of the 2018 FIA World Rally Championship and its support categories, the WRC-2 and WRC-3 championships. The event was based in Alghero in Sardinia and consisted of twenty special stages totalling 313.46 km (194.78 mi) in competitive kilometres.
The 2019 Rally Italia Sardegna was a motor racing event for rally cars that was held over four days between 13 and 16 June 2019. It marked the sixteenth running of Rally Italia Sardegna and was the eighth round of the 2019 World Rally Championship, World Rally Championship-2 and the newly-created WRC-2 Pro class. It was also the third round of the Junior World Rally Championship. The 2019 event was based in Alghero in Sardinia, and was contested over nineteen special stages with a total a competitive distance of 310.52 km (192.95 mi).
The 2020 Rally Italia Sardegna was a motor racing event for rally cars that was scheduled to be held over four days between 4 and 7 June 2020, but had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was reset to hold between 8 and 11 October 2020 following the cancellation of 2020 Rallye Deutschland. It marked the seventeenth running of Rally Italia Sardegna and was the seventh round of the 2020 World Rally Championship, World Rally Championship-2 and World Rally Championship-3. It was also set to be the third round of the Junior World Rally Championship. The 2020 event was based in Alghero in Sardinia and consisted of sixteen special stages. The rally covered a total competitive distance of 238.84 km (148.41 mi).
The 2022 FIA World Rally Championship was the 50th season of the World Rally Championship, an auto racing competition recognised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) as the highest class of international rallying. Teams and crews competed for the World Rally Championships for Drivers, Co-drivers and Manufacturers. Crews were free to compete in cars complying with Groups Rally1 to Rally5 regulations; however, only manufacturers competing with Rally1 cars homologated under radically new regulations were eligible to score points in the manufacturers' championship.
