The 2024 Badminton Asia Team Championships (officially known as the SELANGOR Badminton Asia Team Championships 2024 presented by PKNS for sponsorship reasons) was the fifth edition of Badminton Asia Team Championships, held at the Setia City Convention Centre in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia, from 13 to 18 February 2024. [2] This championships was organised by the Badminton Asia along with Badminton Association of Malaysia as the host organiser. It was sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation. It also served as the Asian qualifiers for the 2024 Thomas & Uber Cup to be held in Chengdu, China. [3] Malaysia and Indonesia were the defending champions of the men's and women's category respectively. [4] [5]

Squads

The teams had to submit the squads by 26 January 2024 and which should consists of three singles players and two doubles pairs. A team has to nominate a minimum of four and a maximum of ten players. [6]

Tournament

The 2024 Badminton Asia Team Championships will crown the best male and female national badminton teams in Asia and at the same time serve as the Asian qualification event towards the 2024 Thomas & Uber Cup to be held in Chengdu, China. [7] [3] [4]

Venue

This tournament will be held at Setia City Convention Centre in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. [1]

Seeds

The seeding was based on team ranking on 9 January 2024. [8]

Draw

The draw was held on 30 January 2024 at the Selangor State Sports Council in Shah Alam at 1:30pm. Both the men's and women's team group stage consist of 4 groups, A, B, C and D (men's) and W, X, Y and Z (women's). The men's groups consists of 4 teams each except group A (3 teams) while the women's groups consists of 3 teams each except for group W (2 teams). [9] [10] [4]

Rizki Amelia Pradipta is an Indonesian badminton player specializing in doubles affiliated with Jaya Raya Jakarta club. She was two-time Asian Championships bronze medalists winning in 2018 and 2019. Pradipta was also part of the national women's team that won the bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Games.

Muhammad Rian Ardianto is an Indonesian badminton player. Born in Bantul, Yogyakarta SR, Ardianto plays for the Jaya Raya Jakarta club at national events. He won the men's doubles silver medal at the 2018 Asian Games, the bronze medals at the 2017 SEA Games, and at the 2019 and 2022 World Championships. Ardianto was part of Indonesia winning team at the 2020 Thomas Cup. He reached a career high of world number 1 in the men's doubles with Fajar Alfian on 27 December 2022.

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung Cahyaningsih is an Indonesian badminton player in women's singles. She started her career at the badminton club PB Mutiara Cardinal in Bandung, West Java, and was called to the national team in 2013. She was the girls' singles champion at the 2017 World Junior Championships. Tunjung also captained the Indonesia women's team at the 2022 Asia Team Championships, where they became champions.

The 2020 Thomas & Uber Cup was the 31st edition of the Thomas Cup and the 28th edition of the Uber Cup, the biennial international badminton championship contested by the men and women's national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF). The tournament were played at Ceres Arena in Aarhus, Denmark. It is the first time that Denmark hosted the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup tournament and the first time this event was held in Europe since England 1982. It was due to be played on 15–23 August 2020, but on 29 April 2020 it was postponed to the 3–11 October due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 15 September 2020 it was again postponed and on 21 December 2020 it was announced that it was postponed to 9–17 October 2021.

The 2022 Thomas & Uber Cup was the 32nd edition of the Thomas Cup and the 29th edition of the Uber Cup, the biennial international badminton championship contested by the men and women's national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF). The tournament was hosted at Bangkok, Thailand in the Impact Arena from 8 to 15 May 2022. This marks the third time Thailand has hosted the Thomas Cup, and second time for the Uber Cup.

The 2024 Uber Cup qualification process is a series of tournaments organised by the five BWF confederations to decide 14 of the 16 teams which will play in the 2024 Uber Cup, with China qualifying automatically as hosts, South Korea qualifying automatically as trophy holder.
