The 2024 NJ/NY Gotham FC season was the team's 15th season as a professional women's soccer team and eleventh participating in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), the top tier of women's soccer in the United States.
As reigning champions, Gotham opened the 2024 NWSL season against San Diego Wave FC, the previous season's NWSL Shield winners, in the 2024 NWSL Challenge Cup one day before the beginning of the regular season. [1]
Gotham finished the regular season in third place and advanced to the NWSL playoffs, where they defeated Portland Thorns FC in the quarterfinals before drawing against the Washington Spirit in regulation and losing the penalty shootout after extra time in the semifinals. [2]
By December 2023, Gotham were in negotiations to sign four members of the United States women's national soccer team: Tierna Davidson, Crystal Dunn, Rose Lavelle, and Emily Sonnett. [3] Dunn and Davidson were signed the next month, [4] followed by Lavelle and Sonnett days later. [5]

The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) federation players were players whose salaries for playing in the National Women's Soccer League were paid for by their respective national federations from 2013 to 2021. American federation players were contracted to the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) and not to their respective NWSL clubs, whereas Canadian federation players were contracted directly to their respective NWSL clubs. Federation players were sometimes known as allocated players, allocation players, or subsidized players, which occasionally created confusion with players paid using NWSL allocation money, a mechanism introduced before the 2020 NWSL season.

The Most Valuable Player of Gotham's 2023 NWSL Championship, she is known for her strength on the ball and her willingness to defend from the attack.
Tierna Lillis Davidson is an American professional soccer player who plays as a center back for NJ/NY Gotham FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and the United States national team. She was drafted first overall by the Chicago Red Stars in the 2019 NWSL College Draft after playing three years at Stanford.
