3 Hammers

3 Hammers (sometimes called Three Hammers) is a strong white cider [1] made in Tiverton, Devon, England by the Aston Manor Brewery. Before 2009 it was made by the Devon Cider Company, until that company went into administration in 2009 [2] and was taken over by Aston Manor. [3] The cider is named after a small village near Tiverton.[ citation needed ]

The strength and cheapness of this and similar white ciders has made them subject to calls for higher taxation to reduce the potential for abuse. [4] In 2006 a litre of 3 Hammers could be bought for £1.19, cheaper by volume than a bottle of Perrier water at 99p for 75 cl. [5]

The name was owned by Accolade Wines until December 2021 when it was bought back into the Showering family business Brothers Drinks Limited. The brand was particularly popular during the 1960s and 1970s. The four brothers are planning a major rebranding and relaunch of the drink.

Devon Cider Company was a company founded in 1999 in Devon, England, which produced cider. In 2005 it moved to a former Whitbread brewery in Tiverton, which it purchased from brewer InBev. The company went into voluntary administration in 2007 and was restructured as a group of three companies: Devon Cider, Devon Cider Brands and Devon Commercial Property.

Cider in the United Kingdom is widely available at pubs, off licences, and shops. It has been made in regions of the country where cider apples were grown since Roman times; in those regions it is intertwined with local culture.
