The Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador is a political party in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada and the provincial wing of the Liberal Party of Canada. It has served as the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador since December 14, 2015.

Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador political party in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

The Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador is a centre-right provincial political party in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The party was founded in 1949 and most recently formed the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador from the 2003 general election until the 2015 general election. The party has served as the official opposition to the government of Newfoundland and Labrador since December 14, 2015. On April 28, 2018 St. John's lawyer Ches Crosbie was elected leader.

Paul Lane is a Canadian politician in the provincial legislature of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. He represents the electoral district of Mount Pearl-Southlands in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly. Born and raised in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Lane resides in the suburban community of Mount Pearl, where he was a city councillor and deputy mayor prior to his election to the provincial legislature. He was first elected in the 2011 provincial election as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador (PC). He currently sits as an independent; he was elected as a Liberal in the 2015 election.

The Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador is the first minister, head of government and de facto chief executive for the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Since 1949, the Premier's duties and office has been the successor to the First Ministerial position of the Prime Minister of the former Dominion of Newfoundland. Before 1964, the position's official title was Premier of Newfoundland. From 1964 to 2001 this title continued to be used outside the province.

Paul Alfred Davis, is a Canadian politician who was the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador and Leader of the Opposition. Davis served as the 12th Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador from September 26, 2014, to December 14, 2015. He was the member of the House of Assembly for Topsail-Paradise from 2015 to 2018, previously representing Topsail from 2010 to 2015.

Cathy Bennett is a Canadian in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. She represented the electoral district of Virginia Waters in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly from 2014 to 2018.

Earle McCurdy is a former leader of the Newfoundland and Labrador New Democratic Party and a former labour leader in Newfoundland and Labrador. He was president of the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union from 1993 to 2014, succeeding founding president Richard Cashin. Previously, McCurdy was the union's secretary-treasurer for 13 years, from 1980 to 1993.

Lorraine Michael Canadian politician

Lorraine Michael is a social-democratic Canadian politician from Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. From May 2006 until March 2015, Michael had been the leader of the Newfoundland and Labrador New Democratic Party (NDP). She is a former nun, teacher, and social activist. On November 1, 2006, she was elected Member of the House of Assembly (MHA) for the district of Signal Hill-Quidi Vidi, and re-elected the following year in the provincial election, and again in 2011. On January 6, 2015, Michael announced her resignation of leader of the NDP following a leadership election which took place on March 7, 2015. Michael successfully contested the 2015 provincial election in the district of St. John's East-Quidi Vidi. Following the resignation of her successor as NDP leader, Earle McCurdy, Michael served as interim leader of the NDP from 2017 until 2018.

Gerry Rogers is a Canadian politician, currently the leader of the Newfoundland and Labrador New Democratic Party, and former documentary filmmaker. She has served in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly since 2011, as an NDP MHA for the electoral district of St. John’s Centre. She became the party's leader after winning the April 2018 leadership election. On February 12, 2019 she announced she would be resigning as party leader.

The Newfoundland and Labrador New Democratic Party is a social democratic political party in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It is a provincial section of the federal New Democratic Party. It was formed in 1961 as the successor to the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) and the Newfoundland Democratic Party. The party first contested the 1962 provincial election.

Eddie Joyce is a Canadian politician, who represents the district of Humber-Bay of Islands in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly. A member of the Liberal Party caucus, he served as the party's interim leader and the leader of the official opposition in the House of Assembly from July until November 2013. He served as a cabinet minister in the Ball government from 2015 to 2018.

Paul Dinn is a Canadian politician. He represents the electoral district of Topsail-Paradise in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly, for the Progressive Conservative Party.

Topsail–Paradise is a provincial electoral district in Newfoundland and Labrador. As of 2011 there are 14,830 people living in the district.

The 2019 New Democratic Party of Newfoundland and Labrador leadership election will be held in March 2019 to nominate the successor of Gerry Rogers. Rogers announced on February 12, 2019 that she will resign as leader once a new party leader is elected but will remain as an MHA until the provincial election.

The 48th Newfoundland and Labrador general election occurred on October 11, 2011, to elect members of the 47th General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, the 19th election for the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The Progressive Conservative Party formed a majority government in the 2007 election, with the Liberal Party serving as the Official Opposition and the New Democratic Party (NDP) serving as a third party.

The 45th Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly began on November 6, 2003. The Progressive Conservative government led by Danny Williams was elected with a victory over the Liberal Party. The Liberal and New Democratic Party (NDP) opposition was greatly decreased from what it was after the 1999 election.

The 49th Newfoundland and Labrador general election, held on November 30, 2015, elected members of the House of Assembly in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Progressive Conservative Party which had governed since 2003 election, was defeated by the Liberal Party, which won a majority in the new assembly.

The 2015 New Democratic Party of Newfoundland and Labrador leadership election was held March 7, 2015, at the Sheraton Hotel in St. John's. The election was prompted by Lorraine Michael's announcement on January 6, 2015, that she would step down as leader of the party after a successor was chosen. All NDP members were able to cast ballots by phone or online between February 25 and March 5, 2015, or in person at the party's convention on March 7, 2015. The election was won by Earle McCurdy.

The Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador leadership election, 2018 was held on April 27–29, 2018, to select a successor to Paul Davis who announced on October 11, 2016, that he planned to step down as leader once his replacement was elected. St. John's lawyer Ches Crosbie defeated former Health Authority CEO Tony Wakeham. Crosbie won the leadership on the first ballot. 11,000 members joined the party during this leadership election, of which, just over 4,000 cast their ballots.

Chesley Furneaux "Ches" Crosbie, Q.C. is a Canadian lawyer and politician who currently serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly. Crosbie was elected leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador on April 28, 2018. On September 20, 2018 he was elected as MHA for Windsor Lake, and therefore became Leader of the Official Opposition upon being sworn in on October 12, 2018.
