Bordeaux is a port city on the river Garonne in the Gironde department, Southwestern France. It is the capital of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, as well as the prefecture of the Gironde department. Its inhabitants are called "Bordelais" (masculine) or "Bordelaises" (feminine). The term "Bordelais" may also refer to the city and its surrounding region.
The Garonne is a river of southwest France and northern Spain. It flows from the central Spanish Pyrenees to the Gironde estuary at the French port of Bordeaux – a length of 529 km (329 mi), of which 47 km (29 mi) is in Spain ; the total length extends to 602 km (374 mi) if one includes the Gironde estuary between the river and the sea. Its basin area is 56,000 km2 (22,000 sq mi), which increases to 84,811 km2 (32,746 sq mi) if the Dordogne River, which flows from the east and joins the Garonne at Bec d'Ambès to form the Gironde estuary, is included.
Pessac-Léognan is a wine growing area and Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée, in the northern part of the Graves region of Bordeaux. Unlike most Bordeaux appellations, Pessac-Léognan is equally famous for both red and (dry) white wines, although red wine is still predominant. It includes the only red-wine producer outside the Haut-Médoc classified in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855, the premier cru Château Haut-Brion, and also includes all of the châteaux listed in the 1953/59 classification of Graves. These classed growths account for a third of the wine produced in Pessac-Léognan.
Château Haut-Brion is a French wine, rated a Premier Grand Cru Classé, produced in Pessac just outside the city of Bordeaux. It differs from the other wines on the list in its geographic location in the north of the wine-growing region of Graves. Of the five first growths, it is the only wine with the Pessac-Léognan appellation and is in some sense the ancestor of a classification that remains the benchmark to this day.
Bordeaux Métropole is the métropole, an intercommunal structure, centred on the city of Bordeaux. It is located in the center of the Gironde department, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, in South West France. It represents about half of the department's population. It was created in January 2015, replacing the previous Communauté urbaine de Bordeaux. It brings together 28 municipalities, and covers an area of 578.3 km2 (223.3 sq mi). Its population was 801,041 in 2018, of which 257,068 resided in Bordeaux proper.
Lormont is a commune in the Gironde department, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, southwestern France. It is a suburb of the city of Bordeaux and is adjacent to it on the northeast. Thus, it is a member of the intercommunality Bordeaux Métropole.
Pessac is a commune in the Gironde department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France. It is a member of the metropolis of Bordeaux, being the second-largest suburb of Bordeaux and located just southwest of it. Pessac is also home to Bordeaux Montaigne University and the Institut d'études politiques de Bordeaux.
The arrondissement of Bordeaux is an arrondissement of France in the Gironde department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. It has 82 communes. Its population is 950,099 (2016), and its area is 1,521.8 km2 (587.6 sq mi).

The Bordeaux tramway network consists of four lines serving the city of Bordeaux in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France. The system has a route length of 77.5 kilometres (48.2 mi), serving a total of 133 tram stops.
Bordeaux–Mérignac Airport is the international airport of Bordeaux, in south-western France. It is situated in the commune of Mérignac, 12 km (7.5 mi) west of Bordeaux, within the département of the Gironde. It mainly features flights to metropolitan and leisure destinations in Europe and Northern Africa and serves as a base for easyJet, Ryanair and Volotea airlines.
Route nationale 10, or RN 10, is a trunk in France between Paris and the border with Spain via Bordeaux.
The A51 autoroute is a partly completed motorway in southeast France. It is the long-term project to connect Marseille to Grenoble via Aix-en-Provence, the Durance Valley and the Hautes-Alpes department.
The A89 autoroute is an autoroute in central France. It is known as the La Transeuropéenne. It connects Bordeaux and Lyon via Clermont-Ferrand. Its total length is 544 km (338 mi).
The Lyon tramway comprises eight lines, seven lines operated by TCL and one by Rhônexpress in the city of Lyon in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France. The original tramway network in Lyon was developed in 1879, and the modern network was built in 2001.
Nouvelle-Aquitaine is the largest administrative region in France, spanning the west and southwest of the mainland. The region was created by the territorial reform of French regions in 2014 through the merger of three regions: Aquitaine, Limousin and Poitou-Charentes. It covers 84,036 km2 (32,446 sq mi) – or 1⁄8 of the country – and has 5,956,978 inhabitants. The new region was established on 1 January 2016, following the regional elections in December 2015.
Cracovie tram stop is a tram stop on line C of the Tramway de Bordeaux. It is located on Allée de Boutaut, which forms the boundary between the city of Bordeaux and the commune of Bruges. The line that the stop is situated on opened on 27 February 2008, when Line C was extended north from Grand Parc to Les Aubiers, but the tram stop itself dates from 17 December 2016, when a new branch of line C was opened from just north of Cracovie to Gare de Blanquefort. The stop is operated by Transports Bordeaux Métropole.
The Rocade de Bordeaux is a ring road that crosses almost all the municipalities of Bordeaux Métropole and the Bordeaux urban area. It is made up of A630 autoroute, section of European routes E5 and E70, on the left bank of the Garonne, and route nationale 230 on the right bank. It is located in the extension of the A10 autoroute and at the intersection of the A89, A62 and A63 autoroutes.
