APCN 2 or Asia-Pacific Cable Network 2 is a submarine telecommunications cable linking several countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

Total bandwidth capacity of Asia Pacific Cable Network 2 is 2.56 Tbit/s, made up of four pairs of optical fibres, each pair providing 640 Gbit/s by Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing of 10 Gbit/s wavelengths. The 19,000 km-long APCN 2 cable system is built in a self-healing ring configuration, which allows fast rerouting of data transfers along APCN 2 in the event of disruptions. The cable system, as of January 2007, is progressively becoming operational. APCN 2 is designed to provide interconnection with other major trans-oceanic cable networks linking the US, Europe, Australia, and other parts of Asia.
On 27 Dec 2006, the 2006 Hengchun earthquake damaged the APCN 2 cable links between Shantou, China and Tanshui, Taiwan, and between Lantau Island in Hong Kong and Chongming, China. This disrupted Internet access to overseas websites from Asia for more than a month. [1] [2] [3] [4]
On 12 Aug 2009, the APCN2 cable suffered further damage, impacting Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Philippines, Singapore and Tokyo links. [5]
In June 2010, the cable suffered some major faults, disrupting the Internet Access in the Philippines.
On 11 March 2011, the APCN2 cable suffered damage as part of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake.
On 23 March 2014, the APCN2 cable damaged after existing submarine cable break at S4A that happened on March 21. [6] [7]
On 7 January 2015, the APCN2 cable failure between Singapore and Asia Pacific. This outage resulted in bandwidth restrictions and significant latency issues in Singapore to Asia Pacific from 7 January 2015 outage resolved on 31 January 2015 (source: Singtel / Singnet TAC) date=2015-01-29

SEA-ME-WE3 or South-East Asia - Middle East - Western Europe 3 is an optical submarine telecommunications cable linking those regions and is the longest in the world. Completed in late 2000, it is led by France Telecom and China Telecom, and is administered by Singtel, a telecommunications operator owned by the Government of Singapore. The Consortium is formed by 92 other investors from the telecom industry. It was commissioned in March 2000.
South East Asia–Middle East–Western Europe 4 is an optical fibre submarine communications cable system that carries telecommunications between Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Italy, Tunisia, Algeria and France. TPE or Trans-Pacific Express is a submarine telecommunications cable linking China, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, and the United States. The line is a US$500 million joint venture between 6 telecommunication companies China Telecom, China Netcom, China Unicom, Chunghwa Telecom, Korea Telecom, and Verizon Communications. Ownership of the cable is evenly split between the 6 participants. Construction of this 11,000 miles line was completed in September 2008, and the Japan branch was completed in January 2010.
The 2008 submarine cable disruption refers to three separate incidents of major damage to submarine optical communication cables around the world. The first incident caused damage involving up to five high-speed Internet submarine communications cables in the Mediterranean Sea and Middle East from 23 January to 4 February 2008, causing internet disruptions and slowdowns for users in the Middle East and India. The incident called into doubt the safety of the undersea portion of the Internet cable system.
The Asia-America Gateway (AAG) is a 20,000-kilometre (12,000 mi) long submarine communications cable system, connecting South-East Asia with the mainland of the United States, across the Pacific Ocean via Guam and Hawaii.
Asia Pacific Gateway (APG) is a submarine communications cable system that connects Mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore. It will be about 10,400 kilometres (6,500 mi) long. The capacity will be 54.8 terabits per second. The APG cable consortium includes Facebook, CAT Telecom, China Telecom, China Mobile International, China Unicom, Chunghwa Telecom, KT Corporation, LG Uplus, NTT Communications, StarHub, Global Transit, Viettel and VNPT. The APG cable system was scheduled to be ready for service in 2016.
TSE-1 or Taiwan Strait Express 1 is the first submarine telecommunications cable directly linking Taiwan island and mainland China. At 270km in length, the cable offers the shortest route between Taiwan and mainland China while avoiding seismically active zones prone to disruption during earthquakes. TSE-1 was completed on January 18, 2013. Once activated, traffic between Taiwan and China will no longer have to be routed via the Asia-Euro Under-sea Optical Cable, the China-US Cable Network or the Asia Pacific Cable Network 2.
South-East Asia Japan Cable System (SJC) is a pan-Asia submarine communications cable system connecting Japan, China, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Brunei, Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia in Asia. The SJC cable consists of 6 fiber pairs, with an initial design capacity of over 15 Tbit/s which can be upgraded to 23 Tbit/s. The SJC cable system utilizes the state-of-the-art advanced 40G SLTE and OADM Branching technologies. The SJC is operational on June 27, 2013.
Asia-Africa-Europe 1 (AAE-1) is a 25,000 km submarine communications cable system from South East Asia to Europe across Egypt, connecting Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar, India, Pakistan, Oman, UAE, Qatar, Yemen, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Greece, Italy, and France. The AAE-1 cable has capacity of at least 40 terabits per second (Tbit/s) to supply the broadband market across Asia, Africa and Europe. In July 2017, it was launched for commercial services and is the longest submarine cable system in over a decade.
