Variety wrote "Of all the George Bernard Shaw plays, few have probably dated quite as badly as “Arms and the Man” and that was very much reflected in the BBC-TV presentation... production tried hard, but not always successfully, to make it a stimulating and controversial entry. It was not the sort of piece to hurt the opposition channel in the battle for ratings." [1]

Liverpool Daily Post said Baker "never overdid the satire of the part." [2]
