The Putnam Avenue Line is a public transit line in Brooklyn, New York City, running mostly along Fulton Street, Putnam Avenue, and Halsey Street between downtown Brooklyn and Ridgewood, Queens. Originally a streetcar line, it is now the B26 Halsey/Fulton Streets bus route, operated by the New York City Transit Authority.
The B26 bus route begins at the Jay Street–MetroTech subway station in Downtown Brooklyn, connecting with the New York City Subway's A , C , F , <F> , and R trains. It heads east on Fulton Street, turning off onto Putnam Avenue, and uses Nostrand Avenue (eastbound) and Bedford Avenue (westbound) to reach Halsey Street. Just before the Queens border, the route turns northwest on Wyckoff Avenue, ending with a loop at the Myrtle–Wyckoff Avenues subway station ( L and M trains) clockwise via Putnam Avenue, Ridgewood Place, Palmetto Street, and back on to Wyckoff Avenue. Along the way, passengers can transfer to the subway at DeKalb Avenue ( B , Q , and R trains), Clinton–Washington Avenues ( C train), and Halsey Street ( J train). [4]
The Brooklyn City Rail Road opened a branch of their Fulton Street Line along Putnam Avenue, Nostrand Avenue, and Halsey Street to Broadway by 1874. [5] By 1897, cars could also use a short spur along Howard Avenue from Halsey Street north to Broadway. [6] The line was extended northeast past Broadway on Halsey Street to the Queens County line and northwest on Wyckoff Avenue to Ridgewood after 1897.
Putnam Avenue horse cars were replaced with electric trolleys on July 17, 1893. [7]
Buses were substituted for streetcars on September 21, 1941, [8] but the line was converted back to streetcars between November 29, 1942[ citation needed ] and February 5, 1950, when the route became the B26 bus route. [9]
In January 1995, the B26 was extended from Adams Street and Johnson Street to a new terminal at Cadman Plaza West and Tilllary Street to eliminate operational problems. To access the terminal at Adams, the B26 used a cut through the median separating the main and service roads of Adams Street, which was dangerous for buses to traverse. In addition, the terminal was congested with illegal parking, the park at the terminal was considered unsafe at night, there was no bus dispatcher at the terminal, and as passengers traveling to the Court Street/Montague Street area had to cross eight-lane Adams Street. At the new terminal, illegal parking was less of a problem, the area was safer, and because the B26 would share a terminal with the B38 and B52, the bus dispatcher assigned to those routes could also do so for the B26. On December 1, 2022, the MTA released a draft redesign for the Brooklyn bus network. [11] [12] As part of the redesign, B26 service on Putnam Avenue would be discontinued, and the B26 would become a "Rush" route, being rerouted to make limited stops along Fulton Street west of Bedford/Nostrand Avenues. The B26 would also replace overnight service on the B25 west of Franklin Avenue, making all local stops. Closely spaced stops would be eliminated. [13]
The 2 Seventh Avenue Express is a rapid transit service in the A Division of the New York City Subway. Its route emblem, or "bullet", is colored red since it uses the IRT Broadway–Seventh Avenue Line through most of Manhattan.
The L 14th Street–Canarsie Local is a rapid transit service in the B Division of the New York City Subway. Its route emblem, or "bullet", is colored medium gray since it serves the BMT Canarsie Line.
The M Queens Boulevard/Sixth Avenue Local is a rapid transit service in the B Division of the New York City Subway. Its route emblem, or "bullet", is colored orange since it is a part of the IND Sixth Avenue Line in Manhattan.
The Nostrand Avenue station is a bi-level express station on the IND Fulton Street Line of the New York City Subway, located at the intersection of Nostrand Avenue and Fulton Street in Bedford–Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. It is served by the A train at all times and the C train at all times except late nights.
The Myrtle–Wyckoff Avenues station is a New York City Subway station complex formed by the intersecting stations of the BMT Canarsie Line and the BMT Myrtle Avenue Line, served by the L and M trains at all times. It is located at Myrtle Avenue and Wyckoff Avenue in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn and the Ridgewood neighborhood of Queens. The complex is connected by a set of stairs and several elevators and escalators between the elevated and underground levels. The station was renovated completely from 2004 to 2008.
The B54 is a bus route on Myrtle Avenue in Brooklyn, New York City. The line travels between Downtown Brooklyn in the west and Myrtle–Wyckoff Avenues station in the east. The B54 operates from MTA New York City Bus's Fresh Pond Depot in Ridgewood, Queens. The route serves only the section of Myrtle Avenue within Brooklyn; the section within Queens is served by the Q55 bus.

Originally streetcar lines, the two lines were combined as a bus route in 1947. That bus route became the present B15 Marcus Garvey Boulevard / New Lots Avenue service, operated by MTA New York City Bus' East New York Depot in East New York. The B15 continues east from New Lots to John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens.
The Crosstown Line is a public transit line in Brooklyn, New York City, running along Van Brunt Street and Manhattan Avenue between Red Hook and Long Island City, Queens. Originally a streetcar line, it is now the B61 and the B62 bus routes. The northern section, the B62, is operated by MTA New York City Bus' Grand Avenue Depot in Maspeth, Queens, and the southern section is the B61, operated by MTA New York City Bus' Jackie Gleason Depot in Sunset Park. The entire route was a single line, the B61, until January 3, 2010; the B62 was previously a separate, parallel route between Downtown Brooklyn and Greenpoint, now part of the B43 route. The streetcar line, B61 and the original B62 previously operated from the now-closed Crosstown Depot in Greenpoint.

Nostrand Avenue is a major street in Brooklyn, New York, that runs for 8 miles (13 km) north from Emmons Avenue in Sheepshead Bay to Flushing Avenue in Williamsburg, where it continues as Lee Avenue. The Q58 and Q58 Limited are bus routes that constitute a public transit line operating primarily in Queens, New York City, with its southern terminal on the border with Brooklyn. The Q58 is operated by the MTA New York City Transit Authority. Its precursor was a streetcar line that began operation in November 1899. and was known variously as the Flushing–Ridgewood Line, the Corona Avenue Line, and the Fresh Pond Road Line. The route became a bus line in 1949.
The B46 bus route constitutes a public transit corridor in Brooklyn, New York City. The route runs primarily along Utica Avenue north from the Kings Plaza shopping center through Eastern Brooklyn, with continued service west along Broadway to the Williamsburg Bridge Plaza Bus Terminal. The corridor was originally served by a streetcar line, known as the Utica and Reid Avenues Line, Utica−Reid Line, Reid−Utica Line, Reid Avenue Line, or Utica Avenue Line until 1951, when the line was replaced by bus service. The bus route is operated by MTA Regional Bus Operations under the New York City Transit brand.
The Richmond Hill Line is a surface transit line on Myrtle Avenue in Queens, New York City. Once a streetcar line owned by the Brooklyn–Manhattan Transit Corporation, it was replaced on April 26, 1950 by the B55 bus route. The trolley tracks were not removed until April 1955, when Myrtle Avenue was being repaved. On December 11, 1988, the bus was relabeled as the Q55 Myrtle Avenue (East) bus route (as opposed to the B54 route on the western portion of Myrtle Avenue), operated by the New York City Transit Authority.
