Basil Hameed (born 15 April 1992) is an Indian-born cricketer who plays for the United Arab Emirates national cricket team. [1] [2] In December 2019, he was named in the One Day International (ODI) squad for the 2019 United Arab Emirates Tri-Nation Series. [3] He made his ODI debut against the United States on 8 December 2019. [4]
In February 2020, Hameed was included in the UAE's Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the 2020 ACC Western Region T20 qualifier tournament. [5] He made his T20I debut against Iran on 23 February 2020. [6] In December 2020, he was one of ten cricketers awarded a year-long part-time contract by the Emirates Cricket Board. [7]
In February 2022, in the second match against Oman, Hameed took his first five-wicket haul in ODI cricket. [8]
Basil was born in Panniyankara, Kerala, India. [1] He was "on the verge of playing Ranji Trophy cricket for his native Kerala" before moving to the UAE for work reasons in 2015. As of 2019 [update] he was an assistant sales manager with Al Nabooda Insurance Brokers (ANIB) and also played cricket for the company team in UAE domestic competitions. [9]

The 2022 Asia Cup Qualification was a men's cricket tournament which took place in Oman in August 2022 to determine qualification for the 2022 Asia Cup. The 2020 editions of the ACC Western and Eastern regional T20 tournaments were held in February and March of the same year by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Thirteen teams competed, with the aim of progressing to the qualifier. These were scheduled to be followed by the Asia Cup Qualifier tournament in Malaysia, which was due to be played in August 2020. However, in July 2020 the Asia Cup was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in the postponement of the qualifier. In May 2021, the Asian Cricket Council confirmed that there would be no Asia Cup in 2021, with that edition of the tournament deferred until 2023. It was later announced that there would be a T20I Asia Cup in 2022, to be hosted by the United Arab Emirates.

Karthik Palaniapan Meiyappan is an Indian-born cricketer who plays for the United Arab Emirates national cricket team as a right-arm leg spin bowler. He made his One Day International (ODI) debut for the UAE in 2019 and also represented the UAE at the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Meiyappan made history being the first ever UAE player to take a hat-trick, the first UAE player to take a hat-trick in a T20 World Cup, and the first player from an ICC associate member to take a hat-trick against an ICC full member.
Alishan Sharafu is an Indian-born cricketer who plays for the United Arab Emirates national cricket team. He was named in the United Arab Emirates squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. In their plate semi-final match against Nigeria, Sharafu scored an unbeaten 59 runs and was named the man of the match. He made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut on 23 February 2020, against Iran, in the 2020 ACC Western Region T20 tournament.

The United Arab Emirates cricket team toured Oman in February 2022 to play three One Day International (ODI) matches at the Oman Cricket Academy Ground in Muscat. The fixtures formed part of the 2019–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tournament, and were arranged to make up for matches between the two sides that were previously postponed during the fourth and eighth rounds of the competition.
