Bearden High School is a Knox County, Tennessee, high school located in the Bearden area in the city of Knoxville. [2]
The school was founded in 1939. [3] It was named for the family of Marcus De LaFayette Bearden, a farmer who served as a captain in the Union Army during the Civil War. [4]
The current building was built in 1967 and finished in 1969, replacing the old building which eventually became Bearden Elementary School. The current principal is Debbie Sayers, who became Principal in the 2019–2020 school year. [5] Bearden High School athletic teams are dubbed "The Bulldogs." Bearden's rivals are the Farragut Admirals, West Rebels, and Maryville Red Rebels. [2] [6]
The school plays football, baseball, women's basketball, track and field, volleyball, men's basketball, soccer, softball, dance, swimming and diving, wrestling, rugby, climbing, and marching band competitively.

Channon Gail Christian, aged 21, and Hugh Christopher Newsom Jr., aged 23, were from Knoxville, Tennessee, United States. They were kidnapped on the evening of January 6, 2007, when Christian's vehicle was carjacked. The couple were taken to a rental house. Both of them were raped, tortured, and murdered. Four males and one female were arrested, charged, and convicted in the case. In 2007, a grand jury indicted Letalvis Darnell Cobbins, Lemaricus Devall Davidson, George Geovonni Thomas, and Vanessa Lynn Coleman on counts of kidnapping, robbery, rape, and murder. Also in 2007, Eric DeWayne Boyd was indicted by a federal grand jury of being an accessory to a carjacking, resulting in serious bodily injury to another person and misprision of a felony. In 2018, Boyd was indicted on state-level charges of kidnapping, robbery, rape, and murder.
Fred Earl Gladding was an American professional baseball player and coach. He was a right-handed pitcher for all or parts of 13 seasons (1961–1973) with the Detroit Tigers and Houston Astros. He was born in Flat Rock, Michigan, and attended Flat Rock Community High School. He was listed at 6 feet 1 inch (1.85 m) tall and 220 pounds (100 kg).
