Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council election, 2012

The 2012 Blaenau Gwent Council election took place on 3 May 2012 to elect members of Blaenau Gwent Council in Wales. [1] This was on the same day as the other United Kingdom local elections, 2012. Labour won majority control of the council after gaining 16 seats. The Liberal Democrats and Blaenau Gwent People's Voice, who had both won seats in the 2008 elections, did not contest any wards in 2012 and thus lost all their seats.

Its highest point is Coity Mountain at 1,896 feet (578 m).

2006 Blaenau Gwent by-elections

Two by-elections were held for the constituency of Blaenau Gwent in Wales following the death of Member of Parliament and Assembly Member Peter Law on 25 April 2006. As Law was the MP and Assembly Member (AM), his death required by-elections in both the parliamentary seat and the equivalent Welsh Assembly constituency. The two elections polled on the same day, 29 June, as a by-election in Bromley and Chislehurst. A win by the Labour Party in the AM by-election would have restored their majority in the Welsh Assembly, which was lost when Law was expelled from the party.

The Blaenau Gwent People's Voice Group was a political party based in the Blaenau Gwent area of Wales.

David Clifford Davies, commonly known as Dai Davies, is a Welsh politician. He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Blaenau Gwent constituency in South Wales from 2006 to 2010, representing the Blaenau Gwent People's Voice Group. He was elected at a by-election in June 2006 following the death of independent MP Peter Law, but lost his seat the at the 2010 general election to Labour's Nick Smith by 10,516 votes.

Patricia Law, née Bolter was the Blaenau Gwent People's Voice AM for Blaenau Gwent in Wales between 2006 and 2011.

The party formed following the Plaid Cymru executive's proposal to more than halve the number of primary schools in Gwynedd by closing rural schools. Many of the party's members are former members of Plaid. The campaign was founded as Llais y Bobl, or "People's Voice", but the name was changed because there is another party by that name in Blaenau Gwent.

Nicholas Desmond John Smith is a British Labour Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Blaenau Gwent since the May 2010 election. From 1998 to 2005 he was a councillor in the London Borough of Camden.

2017 Welsh local elections

Local elections were held in Wales on Thursday 4 May 2017 to elect members of all 22 local authorities, including the Isle of Anglesey, which was last up for election in 2013 due to having its elections delayed for a year. These local elections were held alongside local elections in Scotland and parts of England.

As part of the local elections in Wales on 4 May 2017, the 42 seats of Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council were up for election. The majority of members elected were independents, replacing the previous Labour administration.
