Blambangan Express (Indonesian : Kereta Api Blambangan Ekspres) is an passenger train with the executive & economy that is operated by Kereta Api Indonesia which between Jakarta Pasar Senen & Ketapang since 26 July 2024 that before to Semarang Tawang on 2 December 2022.
The train offer only 1x daily each way, like the noon schedule from Jakarta to Banyuwangi, while the afternon schedule from Banyuwangi to Jakarta around 1.031 kilometers (640 mil) in 16 hours 30 minutes that making as the Indonesia's longest inter-city rail.
The name "Blambangan" comes from the name of a kingdom in Banyuwangi, Blambangan Kingdom. This kingdom was founded in 1478 AD until 1777 AD in the Horseshoe area and was centered in the Blambangan, Muncar, Banyuwangi Village. [1] This name was previously used as the old name of the Probowangi train at the beginning of its operation around the decade 2000s.
The Blambangan Express train will start operating on 2 December 2022, with an initial route from Ketapang–Semarang Tawang round trip. The departure schedule is at night at Ketapang Station and in the afternoon at Semarang Tawang Station. [2] [3] The inauguration was carried out at the two first departure stations of the train. The inauguration at Ketapang Station was attended by the Head of Operational Region 9 Jember Broer Rizal and the Regent of Banyuwangi Ipuk Fiestiandani, while the inauguration in Semarang was attended by the Head of Operational Region 4 Semarang Wisnu Pramudyo and Plt. Mayors of Semarang Hevearita Gunaryanti Rahayu. [4] [5] Initially, the Blambangan train operated optionally on certain days during the 2022 Christmas and 2023 New Year holidays. The Blambangan Express train operation uses the Mutiara Timur (in English is Eastern Pearl) series which previously served the Yogyakarta—Ketapang route pp. [6] Throughout During its journey, this train uses the northern Java line which stretches from Semarang to Surabaya, then follows the Mutiara Timur train route to Banyuwangi.
On 1 June 2023 following of the enactment of new train travel chart 2023, the Blambangan Express has been operating regularly. In addition, the Blambangan train shares a train with the Banyubiru train with a return trip between Semarang Tawang and Solo Balapan on the morning schedule.
The Blambangan Ekspres train route was then extended to Jakarta starting 26 July 2024 to Ketapang–Pasar Senen via the northern Java line (via Surabaya Pasarturi); while the reverse was on 27 July 2024. [7] The departure schedule has changed to afternoon at Ketapang Station and afternoon at Pasar Senen Station. This means this train can no longer be borrowed for Banyubiru train operations.
The Blambangan Express train is a train service that connects from Daop 1 Jakarta to Daop 9 Jember no transit in Surabaya first for those traveling from Jakarta to Banyuwangi or vice versa. [8]
Then, along with the change of the Bima and Argo Semeru series to the latest generation stainless steel series made by PT INKA Madiun in 2024, starting 12 December 2024, the Blambangan Express train uses the 2018 production stainless steel executive train set which is the former of the two trains, while the latest generation of modified economy trains aren't replaced. This train series consists of five stainless steel executive class trains, two latest generation economy class trains modified by Balai Yasa Manggarai, one dining train, one generator train, and one baggage train.
On 1 February 2025, the Blambangan Express train was connecting between Jakarta & Banyuwangi due the passenger went to Bali via train from Jakarta. [9]
