William R. "Bo" Brown (born November 8,1949) is an American politician serving as a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives from the 70th district. Elected in November 2019,he assumed office on January 7,2020.
Brown earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Tennessee State University and a Master of Public Policy and Administration from Jackson State University. He was also a postgraduate at Santa Clara University. [1]
From 1967 to 1971,Brown worked as a teacher and coach in the Jackson Public School District. He later served as a community relations specialist for the United States Department of Justice. From 1972 to 1983,he was a program manager at the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. He was a radio broadcaster for WOKJ and WKXI-FM before becoming an insurance agent at New York Life. Brown has since worked as a financial representative for the Modern Woodmen of America and served as a member of the Jackson City Council. A general election was held in Mississippi on November 4,2003,to elect to four-year terms all members of the state legislature,the offices of governor,lieutenant governor,attorney general,state treasurer,state auditor,secretary of state,commissioner of agriculture and commerce,and commissioner of insurance,plus all three members of the Transportation Commission and all three members of the Public Service Commission.
Edythe Evelyn Gandy was an American attorney and politician who served as Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi from 1976 to 1980. A Democrat who held several public offices throughout her career,she was the first woman elected to a statewide constitutional office in Mississippi. Born in Hattiesburg,she attended the University of Mississippi School of Law as the only woman in her class. Following graduation,she took a job as a research assistant for United States Senator Theodore Bilbo. She briefly practiced law before being elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives,where she served from 1948 to 1952. Defeated for re-election,she worked as director of the Division of Legal Services in the State Department of Public Welfare and Assistant Attorney General of Mississippi until she was elected State Treasurer of Mississippi in 1959.
