Brettenham is a village and civil parish in the Babergh district of Suffolk, England. In 2005 it had a population of 270, [2] increasing to 353 at the 2011 Census, and reduced to 320 in the 2021 census. [3]
Almost the entire built-up area is defined as a conservation area, and the parish also contains some ancient woodland at Ram's Wood. The village is home to independent prep school, Old Buckenham Hall.
The ancient village is recorded about 1086 in Little Domesday as being within the hundred of Cosford. [4]
The parish became part of Babergh district when it was formed on 1 April 1974 by the merger of Cosford Rural District (1882–1974) [5] with other units of government.
Brettenham is part of the electoral ward called Brett Vale. The population of this ward at the 2011 Census was 2,181. [6]
Babergh District is a local government district in Suffolk, England. In 2021 it had a population of 92,300. The district is primarily a rural area, containing just two towns, Sudbury and Hadleigh, which was the administrative centre until 2017 when the council moved to shared offices with neighbouring Mid Suffolk District Council in Ipswich, outside either district. The district is named after the medieval Babergh Hundred, which covered part of the area.

The parish borders Assington, Edwardstone, Groton, Kersey, Newton and Polstead. There are 87 listed buildings in Boxford. Boxford became a conservation area in 1973.
Great Waldingfield is a village and civil parish in the Babergh district of Suffolk, England about two miles (3 km) north-east of Sudbury and two miles (3 km) south-west of its sister village, Little Waldingfield. The village is split into two separate parts; the older and smaller part around the St. Lawrence Church, and the newer and larger section along the B1115 road between Sudbury and Lavenham. Most of the houses in the newer section were built after World War II, including much council housing. The parish also includes the hamlets of Upsher Green and part of Washmere Green. The population is estimated to be 1,460, reducing to 1,431 at the 2011 Census.

Babergh was a hundred of Suffolk, consisting of 71,882 acres (290.90 km2). Its name survives in that of Babergh District, the local government district of southern Suffolk that includes the former hundred as well as those of Cosford and Samford.
Cosford Rural District was a rural district in the administrative county of West Suffolk, England. It was created in 1894 out of the earlier Cosford rural sanitary district, except for Hadleigh parish which was made a separate urban district. Only minor adjustments were made to its boundary in the reorganisation of 1935. It was named after the historic hundred of Cosford, although the rural district covered a significantly larger area that included most of Cosford hundred and part of the neighbouring hundred of Babergh.
