Epping railway station is a heritage-listed railway station in Epping, in the northern region of Sydney. It is served by Sydney Trains' T9 Northern Line, NSW TrainLink's Central Coast & Newcastle Line, and Sydney Metro's North West & Bankstown Line services.
The Rail Clearways Programme was conceived in 2004 with the aim of easing congestion of Sydney's suburban railway network, by reducing the amount of infrastructure shared by multiple services. The disparate projects at pinch points throughout the network were designed to increase passenger capacity and improve reliability. All projects were delivered by the Transport Construction Authority until it was subsumed in November 2011 by Transport for New South Wales. A new timetable was introduced in October 2013 that realised the benefit of many of the projects, and by January 2014—the programme was complete.

Sydney Metro Northwest was a rapid transit project that constructed the first section of the Metro North West & Bankstown Line through the north-western suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The project included the conversion of the existing Epping to Chatswood rail link to metro standards and connects the suburbs of Rouse Hill and Chatswood via Castle Hill and Epping. The project was managed by Transport for NSW. The line is part of the Sydney Metro system. The completed Metro North West line opened on 26 May 2019, and was later extended to Sydenham via the CBD, which opened on 19 August 2024.

Kellyville railway station is an elevated station on the Metro North West & Bankstown Line, as part of the Sydney Metro network. The station was built by Impregilo-Salini and Metro Trains Sydney for Transport for NSW, and is situated along Samantha Riley Drive, Kellyville, in Sydney, Australia. Train services from the station run to Tallawong and Sydenham, with a journey time to Chatswood of around 33 minutes and to Sydenham in around 56 minutes. As the New South Wales Government's Sydney's Rail Future strategy is delivered over the next 20 years, services have been extended to the Sydney central business district (CBD) and towards Bankstown in late 2025. Kellyville Station opened on 26 May 2019 as part of the Sydney Metro Northwest line from Chatswood to Tallawong, which has since been extended down towards Sydenham via the City.
Sydney Metro is a fully automated rapid transit rail system in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It currently consists of the Metro North West & Bankstown Line, running between Tallawong and Sydenham and consisting of 21 stations on 52 km (32 mi) of twin tracks, mostly underground. The first stage of the line opened on 26 May 2019, running between Tallawong and Chatswood. This line was extended from Chatswood to Sydenham on 19 August 2024 as part of the first stage of the City & Southwest project. The second stage of the project will then further extend this line to Bankstown as part of a partial conversion of the existing Bankstown railway line with a scheduled completion in 2025.
The Bankstown railway line is a suburban railway which traverses the Inner West and Canterbury-Bankstown areas of Sydney. West of Bankstown it is used by T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown services, while east of Bankstown it is temporarily closed to facilitate conversion for its future use by M1 North West & Bankstown services.

The station is the terminus of the Metro North West & Bankstown Line on the Sydney Metro network. Beyond the station to the west lies the Tallawong depot, where metro rolling stock is stabled.

The project will extend the Metro North West & Bankstown Line from Chatswood on the North Shore, to Bankstown in the city's southwest via the Sydney central business district. The line is part of the Sydney Metro system. Its first phase, Sydney Metro City, opened on 19 August 2024.
