Confienza is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Pavia in the Italian region Lombardy, located about 50 km southwest of Milan and about 50 km northwest of Pavia.

The comune is a basic administrative division in Italy, roughly equivalent to a township or municipality.

The province of Pavia is a province in the region of Lombardy in northern Italy; its capital is Pavia. As of 2015, the province has a population of 548,722 inhabitants and an area of 2,968.64 square kilometres (1,146.20 sq mi); the town of Pavia has a population of 72,205.

Casalino is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Novara in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 70 kilometres (43 mi) northeast of Turin and about 11 kilometres (7 mi) southwest of Novara. Granozzo con Monticello is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Novara in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 80 kilometres (50 mi) northeast of Turin and about 10 kilometres (6 mi) southwest of Novara.

History

Confienza's name derives most likely from the Latin confluentia , referring to a confluence of two rivers which have now changed their course. It belonged to the bishop of Vercelli from 999, then to the lords of the nearby Robbio. Pavia obtained it through the intervention of emperor Frederick II. Later it was under the Visconti (who gave it as a fief to Alberico da Barbiano together with Belgioioso) and the Sforza of Milan. Under the French domination of the Duchy of Milan, it was held by Gian Giacomo Trivulzio. Later it was returned to the Barbiano of Belgioso, to which it belonged until 1797.

Robbio is a city and comune (municipality) in the Province of Pavia in the Italian region Lombardy, located about 50 km southwest of Milan and about 45 km west of Pavia. It is part of Lomellina traditional region. Robbio borders the following municipalities: Borgolavezzaro, Castelnovetto, Confienza, Nicorvo, Palestro, Rosasco, Vespolate.

Pavia is a town and comune of south-western Lombardy, northern Italy, 35 kilometres south of Milan on the lower Ticino river near its confluence with the Po. It has a population of c. 73,000. The city was the capital of the Kingdom of the Lombards from 572 to 774.

Frederick II was King of Sicily from 1198, King of Germany from 1212, King of Italy and Holy Roman Emperor from 1220 and King of Jerusalem from 1225. He was the son of emperor Henry VI of the Hohenstaufen dynasty and of Constance, heiress to the Norman kings of Sicily.
