Anatomical terminology

A costotransverse ligament is ligament of the costotransverse joint which attaches at (the posterior aspect of [1] ) the neck of a rib, and at (the anterior aspect of [1] ) the transverse process of [1] [2] its corresponding [1] vertebra. [1] [2] It extends posteriorly from the rib to the vertebra. [1]

It strengthens the costotransverse joint anteriorly. [2]

It is diminished or absent at the joints of ribs XI-XII. [1]
