A costotransverse ligament is ligament of the costotransverse joint which attaches at (the posterior aspect of^[1]) the neck of a rib, and at (the anterior aspect of^[1]) the transverse process of^[1]^[2] its corresponding^[1] vertebra.^[1]^[2] It extends posteriorly from the rib to the vertebra.^[1]

It strengthens the costotransverse joint anteriorly.^[2]

It is diminished or absent at the joints of ribs XI-XII.^[1]
