Creswell Green is a hamlet [1] near Burntwood in the Lichfield District in the county of Staffordshire, England. Creswell Green forms part of the wider Burntwood civil parish. [2]
Creswell Green was once a through route between Boney Hay and Burntwood, it is first mentioned in 1571 as "the Hobstone Hill Lane which runs south-east from Cresswell Green along the parish boundary." [3]
Creswell Green was then mentioned again in 1824 as consisting of a slaughterhouse, blacksmiths and a pub named the "Lord Nelson Inn". [4]
Despite the rapid urbanisation of nearby Burntwood during the Industrial Revolution with the arrival of the railways and opening of coal mines. Creswell Green retained its rural identity and avoided becoming part of the wider Burntwood urban area with nearby Boney Hay, Burntwood, Burntwood Green, Chase Terrace, Chasetown and Hammerwich. [5]
Creswell Green is home to a pub, the "Lord Nelson Inn" and a few private residences. The nearest amenities are in Burntwood and Lichfield.
