Criminal is an upcoming American crime drama television series created by co-showrunners Ed Brubaker and Jordan Harper. The series is based on the comic book of the same name by Brubaker and Sean Phillips. The series is to be released on Amazon Prime Video.
The series follows multiple generations of criminal families and explores the murders that connect their pasts.
A television adaptation of the comic book series Criminal by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips was in initial development at Legendary Television development in 2019 with Brubaker adapting his own work for the screen. In February 2023, Amazon Studios requested further development with Brubaker executive producing with additional writers. [12] Amazon oficially ordered the series in January 2024 and Jordan Harper was hired as co-showrunner with Brubaker. [13] In April 2024, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck were hired to direct the first four episodes. [14] The latter four episodes are directed by Dee Rees. [15]
In May 2024, Richard Jenkins, Adria Arjona, Kadeem Hardison, and Charlie Hunnam were the first cast members announced for the series, [2] [3] [4] [1] In June, Logan Browning was also announced as a series regular, [5] with recurring roles added for Pat Healy, Taylor Selé, John Hawkes, Gus Halper, Aliyah Camacho, Michael Mando, Marvin Jones III, Michael Xavier, and Dominic Burgess. [8] [9] [16] [11] The following month, additional lead roles for Emilia Clarke and Luke Evans were announced. [6] [7]
Filming began in Portland, Oregon on June 10, 2024, [10] [16] with plans to continue through October. [17]
Charles Matthew Hunnam is an English actor and screenwriter. He is best known for his role as Jax Teller in the FX series Sons of Anarchy (2008–2014). His portrayal was nominated twice for the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Actor.
Kadeem Hardison is an American actor. The son of fashion model Bethann Hardison, he rose to prominence after landing the role of Dwayne Wayne on the television series A Different World, a spin-off of the NBC sitcom The Cosby Show. He is also known for playing Craig Cooper, the title character's father, in the Disney Channel series K.C. Undercover. Hardison has also appeared in the first season of the Showtime comedy Black Monday and starred as Bowser in the Netflix series Teenage Bounty Hunters.
Logan Laurice Browning is an American actress. She is best known for starring as Samantha White in the 2017 Netflix satirical-drama series Dear White People. She is also known for playing Sasha in the 2007 film Bratz: The Movie, Brianna Brown in Meet the Browns, Jelena Howard on the VH1 series Hit the Floor, and Zora in the PlayStation Network series Powers.
Adria Arjona Torres is a Puerto Rican actress. She played Dorothy Gale in the Oz book adaptation Emerald City (2017), Anathema Device in Good Omens (2019), and Bix Caleen in Andor (2022). She had supporting roles in the films Pacific Rim Uprising (2018), Life of the Party (2018), Triple Frontier (2019), 6 Underground (2019) and Morbius (2022), and a starring role in Hit Man (2023).
