Lagardère is an international group with operations in more than 40 countries worldwide headquartered in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. The group was created in 1992 as Matra, Hachette & Lagardère and once covered a broad range of industries. It is now largely focused on the media sector, in which it is one of the world's leading companies. Headed by Arnaud Lagardère, it is now refocused around its two priority divisions: Lagardère Publishing and Lagardère Travel Retail. These two divisions are each among the world leaders in their respective businesses. Its book and electronic publishing division includes the major imprint Hachette Livre. The Lagardère Travel Retail unit includes store retail, largely in airports and railway stations. The Group’s business scope also comprises “Other Activities”, mainly including Lagardère News together with Lagardère Live Entertainment.
Penguin Group is a British trade book publisher and part of Penguin Random House, which is owned by the German media conglomerate Bertelsmann. The new company was created by a merger that was finalised on 1 July 2013, with Bertelsmann initially owning 53% of the joint venture, and Pearson PLC initially owning the remaining 47%. Since December 2019, Penguin Random House has been wholly owned by Bertelsmann.

Hachette Livre is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lagardère Group. HBG was formed when Hachette Livre purchased the Time Warner Book Group from Time Warner on March 31, 2006. Its headquarters are located at 1290 Avenue of the Americas, Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Hachette is considered one of the big-five publishing companies, along with Holtzbrinck/Macmillan, Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, Scholastic, and Simon & Schuster. Skyhorse Publishing, Inc. is an American independent book publishing company founded in 2006 and headquartered in New York City, with a satellite office in Brattleboro, Vermont.
Running Press is an American publishing company and member of the Perseus Books Group. The publisher's offices are located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with many of the corporate functions taking place in Perseus' New York City headquarters. It was co-founded by Stuart "Buz" Teacher; and his brother, Lawrence "Larry" Teacher, who died in March 2014.

Perseus Books Group was an American publishing company founded in 1996 by investor Frank Pearl. It was named Publisher of the Year in 2007 by Publishers Weekly magazine for its role in taking on publishers formerly distributed by Publishers Group West and acquiring Avalon Publishing Group. After the death of Frank Pearl, Perseus was sold to Centre Lane Partners in 2015, a private equity firm. In April 2016, its name and publishing business was acquired by Hachette Book Group and its distribution business by Ingram Content Group.

They have published over 300 books on military history. Many of their books are memoirs and historical overviews of specific military events. They also distribute books for other publishing companies and market their products to enthusiasts, hobbyists, students, instructors, and researchers of military history, as well as members of the armed forces and military organizations.
Little, Brown Book Group is a UK publishing company. Since 2006 Little, Brown Book Group has been owned by Hachette UK, a subsidiary of Hachette Livre. The company was sold to Hachette UK by Time Warner who owned Little, Brown UK and USA.
Publishers Group West (PGW) is a book distributor founded in 1976 in Berkeley, California, which distributes to bookstores in the U.S. and internationally. They were the largest distributor of independent presses in the U.S. in the 1990s. In 2007, PGW was acquired by Perseus Books Group. They are the exclusive distributor for over 100 publishers. Some of their former publishers were picked up for direct distribution by Perseus Books Group and others in 2007. Periodic additions to their list of publishers include an additional 5 added in 2012. Within the book business, they are known for throwing a party at the annual BookExpo convention, with musical performers including Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk and Chaka Khan in 2012.
Penguin Random House is a multinational conglomerate publishing company formed in 2013, from the merger of Random House, owned by German media conglomerate Bertelsmann, and Penguin Group, owned by British publishing company Pearson plc.
Bookouture is a British digital publishing company. It was founded in 2012, by Oliver Rhodes a former marketing controller for Harlequin/Mills & Boon. Bookouture is notable for growing its e-book sales dramatically, and for having several of its publications sell substantial numbers.
