Deepak Rawat (born 24 September 1977) is an Indian civil servant who serves in the Uttarakhand cadre of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). [1] [2] Rawat is currently posted as the Commissioner of Kumaon division, Uttarakhand and additionally as Secretary to Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. [3] [4]
Rawat is an IAS officer from the 2007 batch. He has served in various positions as District magistrate and is recognized for conducting multiple raids during his tenure. [5] [6]
Rawat has stated that a retired IPS officer, Anil Kumar Raturi (Former DGP Uttarakhand) inspired him to pursue a career in civil services. [7]
In his third attempt, Rawat successfully passed the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination and was appointed to the Indian Revenue Service (IRS - Customs). [7]
Rawat continued his preparations and successfully cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination (CSE) twice, resulting in his appointment to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). [8]
He was posted as district magistrate of Bageshwar (2011) and was transferred as Managing Director of Kumaon Vikas Mandal (2012). [9] Later transferred as district magistrate of Nainital (2014-2017) and Haridwar (2017-2019) respectively. [10] [11] [12]
Rawat was further appointed as Haridwar Kumbh Mela officer. [13] [14] [15] He is currently serving as Commissioner of Kumaon division, Uttarakhand [16] [17] and additionally as Secretary to Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami. [18] [19] [20]

Rawat was born on 24 September 1977, his childhood dream was to become a scrap dealer (ragman). [24] He grew up in Mussorie, Uttarakhand where his father worked as a farmer. Rawat completed his graduation in History Honours and later cracked the civil services examination, becoming an IAS officer. [25] [26] [27]

Rawat received the National Award in 2019 for his work as a District Nutrition Mission officer. The award was presented to him by Union Minister Smriti Irani. Rawat dedicated the award to Anganwadi, a government-sponsored child-care and mother-care centre in India. [29]
In December 2018, a bench of the Supreme Court of India, led by Justice Ranjan Gogoi, issued a warning to Rawat. He and his subordinate, Roorkee Joint Magistrate Nikita Khandelwal, were reportedly conducting a demolition drive in Jaurasi Village where they violated the established court procedures during the operation. The court cautioned Rawat to comply with court orders and avoid any actions that may be perceived as contravening them. [30]
During his tenure as Collector in Haridwar in January 2018, an attempt to murder case was filed against Rawat by a priest. The priest alleged that Rawat, along with his helper, had assaulted him in a closed room. This incident occurred in the context of a dispute between the government and an ashram over land use. Rawat denied the allegations and claimed that they were part of a larger conspiracy to defame him. The case was later dropped due to lack of evidence. However, the incident was widely reported in the media and raised questions about Rawat's conduct as a government official. [31] [32] [33]
Dhan Singh Rawat is the Cabinet Minister of Uttarakhand and a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He has served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Uttarakhand, representing the constituency of Srinagar Garhwal.

Dr. Harak Singh Rawat is a prominent political leader of the Uttarakhand state in India. He is a member of Indian National Congress after being expelled from the BJP in 2022. After joining Congress he negotiated an MLA ticket for his daughter in law, Anukriti Gusain, from Congress party and worked as a star campaigner in 2022 Uttarakhand General Elections. He became the youngest Minister of Uttar Pradesh State in the year 1991 and also won assembly election from Pauri. He has also won as an MLA from Rudraprayag, Lansdowne and Kotdwar and is one of the few leaders in the state with a wide appeal in a large area. He was the candidate of Indian National Congress from Garhwal in 2014 Indian general election. He was expelled from BJP and the Cabinet led by Pushkar Singh Dhami stating that he has indulged in anti-party activities and he is demanding ticket for his daughter in law (Anukriti) as well for the Uttarakhand Assembly Elections 2022. He later joined Congress in the presence of former Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat.
The 2017 Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly election was the 4th Vidhan Sabha election of the state of Uttarakhand in India. Elections were held on 15 February 2017 in a single phase for the 69 seats of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly. Voting in the Karnaprayag constituency was postponed until 9 March 2017 due to the death of BSP candidate Kuldeep Kanwasi in a road accident. In the previous election in 2012, none of the parties won a majority but the Indian National Congress formed the government with the help of PDF with the leadership of Vijay Bahuguna.
