The Dehradun Literature Festival is an annual literary festival held annually in Dehradun, India, founded by Samraant Virmani, an Indian social worker. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]

History

It was founded in 2016 by Samraant Virmani, [8] He took this initiative to bring exposure to the Doon valley which happens to be his hometown. [9] Author Ruskin Bond is the brand ambassador of Dehradun Literature Festival. [8]

2017 Edition

The 2017 edition of the two-day Dehradun Literature Festival commenced at the ONGC Officers Club, Dehradun. [10] The 2017 inaugural curtain raiser of Dehradun Literature Festival Shobhaa De, who launched Karan Johar's book The Unsuitable Boy. [11]

2018 Edition

In January 2018, the curtain raiser of the 2nd season saw the attendance of Bollywood actor Shatrughan Sinha [16] along with the writer of his biography Anything but Khamosh Bharathi Pradhan who is a film critic and a writer. [17] [18] [19]

Sarvesh Asthana is an Indian poet, writer and satirist, who writes and performs in the Hindi language. He has authored around 12 books. Asthana has contributed to various genres of Hindi literature, including Hasya Kavita, Vyangya (satire) and Bal kavita. He was honored with the Yash Bharati, the highest civilian award of the Government of Uttar Pradesh for his contribution in the field of literature in 2016. All India Muslim Jamaat (Urdu: آل انڈیا مسلم جماعت, also known as AIMJ, It is the first historical Sunni Sufi organization formed in India. Laxmi Narayan Sudhanshu (1906–1974) was an Indian writer, litterateur, poet, independent activist and political leader. He won the 1952 Bihar Legislative Assembly election from an assembly seat in Purnia. He also held the post of Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from 1962 to 1967. Sudhanshu is known for actively participating in the Quit India Movement in 1942. He was imprisoned in Bhagalpur jail by the Britishers.

On 15 February 2023, 25-year-old Nasir and 35 Year old Junaid were allegedly kidnapped by Bajrang Dal members who are known as Gau Rakshak on suspicion of cow smuggling in Nuh district of Haryana, India. They were brutally beaten, then put in a car and burnt alive. They died hand in hand on the spot. The incident came to light after photos of the lynching went viral on the social media. The police investigating the case later dropped murder charges against the accused Bajrang Dal members. Nasir and Junaid belonged to Ghatmika village of Bharatpur district of Rajasthan.

Pachna is a village in Sheikhpura district of Bihar. It is the birthplace of Sufi saint Makhdoom Shah Muhammad Munim Pak. This villages comes under the Sheikhpura Municipal Corporation and Sheikhpura Assembly Constituency. It became a part of Sheikhpura Nagar Parishad in 2021 update. There is a very old Temple of Pahadi Baba.

Juloos-e-Muhammadi or Juloos-e-Mohammadi or Mohammadi Juloos is an annual procession and a traditional festival celebrated by Barelvi Sunni Muslims around the World on the Birth Day of Islamic Prophet Muhammad on 12th of Islamic Month Rabiul Awwal commemorating prophet. It is celebrated after the Mawlid Program. The procession calls Slogans like Labbaik Ya Rasul Allah, Sarkar Ki Aamad Marhaba etc. The procession of Kanpur is the largest in Asia.

On July 20, 2018, The Imam of Barelvi movement, President of Jamaat Raza-e-Mustafa and Grand Mufti of India Tajush Shariah Akhtar Raza Khan Qadri alias Azhari Miyan died due to the prolonged illness. His funeral was attended by at least 12,500,000 people across the world. A day of mourning was organised in Bareilly Sharif.
